About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in technical program management, business systems, finance transformation, or a related field, with substantial experience in finance or revenue systems.
  • Working fluency in finance operations, including quote-to-cash and record-to-report, and understanding the distinction between revenue recognition and billing.
  • Hands-on ITGC program experience across access, change management, and IT operations for in-scope financial systems, plus practical SOX knowledge; understanding how ITGC reliance affects auditor acceptance of automated controls and system-generated reports, distinguishing key from non-key controls, knowing where ITACs fit alongside ITGCs, and experience with remediation and audit cycles.
  • An AI-native operating mindset and existing use of AI to draft requirements, synthesize status, triage intake, and assemble evidence packages, with sharing of patterns that improve how others work.
  • A track record of independently delivering technical programs end to end, ideally transformation work such as system modernization, large-scale migration, or ERP or billing platform implementation, and turning messy or incomplete inputs into a concrete plan with owners and dates.
  • Working understanding of data lifecycle and analytics tooling, and experience running change management for business systems.
  • Ability to influence without authority, drive ambiguous items to decisions, recognize when to push or escalate, revisit uncomfortable questions before launch, and communicate clearly with Director/VP+ stakeholders, including when the news is bad.
Responsibilities
  • Act as Finance's technical counterpart on new product, pricing, and packaging launches; translate commercial models into requirements across order capture, rating and billing, tax, revenue recognition, and downstream reporting; define revenue readiness before go/no-go, including ownership, completion status, and risks.
  • Broker launch-date and systems-reality trade-offs by defining scoped manual workarounds with an owner, cost, and expiration date, alongside the path to automation; after launch, assess billing accuracy, exception rates, revenue outcomes, control operation, and readiness to scale to 10x volume.
  • Independently own delivery and multi-quarter roadmaps for finance systems programs, including ERP, billing and subscription management, CPQ, revenue subledger, procurement, and reporting; run cross-functional working groups across Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Data, and Security with clear accountability and concise leadership updates.
  • Run intake and prioritization, maintain decision logs, escalate risks early, track a focused set of improvement metrics, and flag when committed scope and capacity do not align.
  • Map current-state processes and data lineage end to end; address reconciliation gaps, recurring manual journal entries, spreadsheets serving as critical processes, and competing sources of truth; partner with Data Engineering on definitions and data contracts that connect finance metrics to source systems, and address team drift.
  • Drive ITGC workstreams across in-scope financial systems, including logical access and segregation of duties, change management, SDLC and CI/CD pipelines, job scheduling, and data interfaces; partner with Internal Audit on scoping and control design and ensure every control has a named owner.
  • Facilitate control design in new systems, system changes, and launches before go-live with Controllership, Internal Audit, and Engineering; serve as systems-side contact for internal and external audit ITGC walkthroughs and testing; translate between control and engineering language and drive deficiencies through root cause, named owners, evidence, and validation.
  • Build AI-assisted workflows that expand team capacity, with defined tasks, output-quality evaluation, explicit human-review gates for financial reporting, and documentation enabling others to operate them.
Desired Qualifications
  • Public-company or IPO-track experience.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise billing, ERP, and revenue systems such as NetSuite, Stripe, or comparable tools, including understanding how orders, invoices, and revenue data flow between them.
  • Experience supporting IPO readiness or a first-year SOX program, including establishing ITGCs from scratch.
  • CISA, CIA, or equivalent certification, or equivalent time embedded on an IT audit team.
  • Experience building internal tooling or agents on a workspace platform rather than only configuring vendor systems.

About the company

Notion builds a workspace app where people and teams write notes and documents, plan projects, and keep company wikis, all made from the same flexible blocks. It announced an AI writing assistant built on an OpenAI model in November 2022, two weeks before ChatGPT's launch set off the generative AI boom. A page can mix text, checklists, and databases that turn into task boards or calendars, while AI agents search the workspace and connected apps like Slack and run routine tasks on a schedule. Notion is free for individuals, and teams pay per-member subscriptions plus credits to run custom agents. Notion was founded in 2013, released its app in 2016, and is based in San Francisco.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • AI pays off: customers using AI drove over 50% of Notion's recurring revenue in 2025, more than double 2024's share.
  • Equity turns into cash early: investors bought $270 million of staff shares in January 2026, open to nearly every employee.
  • Room to start a career: Notion listed 133 open roles in October 2026, including new-grad engineering jobs and 2027 internships.

What critics are saying

  • Equity has barely grown: Notion's valuation rose only from $10 billion in 2021 to $11 billion by January 2026.
  • Microsoft competes head-on at scale: its Loop app mirrors Notion, and Copilot passed 30 million paid seats in July 2026.
  • Expect three office days a week: Notion's October 2026 job posts require Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in the office.

What makes Notion unique

  • Teams, not solo users, pay the bills: about 90% of Notion's business comes from shared team workspaces.
  • Unlike most startups, it funds itself: Notion has more cash than the $330 million it has raised, its COO said.
  • Startups' default workspace: Notion says 98% of the Forbes Cloud 100, the top private cloud companies, use it.

Notion acquires WorkFlowy to merge AI-powered outlining with structured databases

Notion has acquired minimalist outlining tool WorkFlowy for an undisclosed sum, aiming to blend rapid, keyboard-driven workflows with structured database capabilities. WorkFlowy will remain a standalone app through at least the end of 2027. A new "Notion Flow" block, expected in beta next quarter, will bring WorkFlowy's infinite zooming and nested outlining directly into Notion pages. The integration will leverage Notion AI to transform hierarchical outlines into formatted databases or technical documents. The acquisition targets developers, researchers, and project managers who previously used WorkFlowy for rapid brainstorming before migrating data into Notion for formalisation. By combining both tools, users can move from ideation to documentation without switching platforms. The full integration will roll out to Notion Enterprise customers in Q4 2026, intensifying competition with rivals like Obsidian, Roam Research, and Mem.

Notion launches developer platform to orchestrate AI agents and automate workflows

Notion has introduced a developer platform that transforms its workspace into an orchestration hub for AI agents. The platform allows teams to deploy custom code, connect external agents, and build automated workflows that pull data from any database. The new Workers feature enables customers to run custom code in a secure cloud environment without external infrastructure. Database sync, powered by Workers, can pull real-time data from sources like Salesforce and Postgres into Notion databases. Since launching Custom Agents in February, Notion customers have built over one million agents. The platform now supports external agents including Claude Code, Cursor and Codex, allowing users to chat with them and track progress alongside Notion's native agents. The Developer Platform is available on Business and Enterprise plans, with Workers free through August.

Leapsome appoints two VPs and wins Notion as US expansion accelerates

Leapsome, a platform combining HRIS, performance and growth management, has appointed Jessica Zwaan as VP people strategy and operations and Rebecca Corliss as VP marketing as it expands its North American presence. The company has also won Notion as a customer. Founded in 2016, Leapsome has evolved from a talent management platform into an integrated system connecting core HR, performance, engagement and AI capabilities. The company now has more customers in the US than any other market. Zwaan joins from Talentful, where she served as chief operating officer, whilst Corliss brings experience from HubSpot, Owl Labs and VergeSense. Leapsome recently added a native ADP Workforce Now integration and expanded its Justworks partnership. The company is exhibiting at Transform 2026 this week in Las Vegas.
