Runs cloud computing, security and content delivery
Akamai Technologies runs cloud infrastructure and security services for businesses that operate websites, applications and streaming platforms. Its content delivery network stores copies of files near users so pages, downloads and video reach them without repeated trips to a distant origin server. The company also filters malicious web traffic and rents computing and storage capacity that developers use to run applications across its network. Customers pay through service contracts, subscriptions and charges tied to traffic or computing usage, with support and professional services available. Akamai was founded in 1998 and is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
