About the company

Bumble is a tech platform that offers three connected apps for dating, friendship, and professional networking: Bumble Date, Bumble BFF, and Bumble Bizz. It works on a freemium model where users can download and use core features for free and pay for premium options such as advanced filters, seeing who has liked you, and extending matches. A key design choice is that women must make the first move in conversations, creating a more balanced starting point and safer environment. The app also emphasizes safety with features like photo verification to reduce fake profiles. Compared to competitors, Bumble differentiates itself by prioritizing women-initiated conversations, a focus on respectful interactions, and a clear division of features across dating, friendship, and professional networking. The goal is to help people form meaningful connections—romantic, platonic, or professional—while growing its user base and revenue through subscriptions and in-app purchases.

Bumble changes its dating game: Men may message first.

Bumble changes its dating game: Men may message first. This is a big change in the operating ethos of Bumble and might affect user experience on the platform. Updated: Aug 14, 2026 Bumble is making a big shift, ending its women-first message policy that's been in effect for more than a decade. The platform had previously run with a women-centric strategy, only allowing women to send the initial message in a match. With this new tweak, any participant in a match may now send the initial message. This is another step toward more equal engagement between users. Bumble has upgraded its chat function with major improvements in an effort to boost flexibility and user engagement. Effective immediately, the first conversation in a match may be initiated by any participant, creating a more balanced engagement dynamic. Bumble has extended the recipient's response window from 24 hours to 72 hours to provide more time for crafting thoughtful responses. Users are limited to sending one first message to start a chat, allowing for a great first impression. Conversations begin only when the receiver replies to this first message. In addition, people sending short or low-effort messages will be prompted to participate in more meaningful conversation. - Advertisement - The company says its research has shown a favourable rise in message initiation rates and a more equal distribution of first messages between male and female users. Bumble debuted in 2014 and has put women's experience at the heart of all they do on the site. A whopping 66% of the women polled prefer that males make the first move, which takes the strain off of dating. The platform seeks to enhance confidence and enhance dating results by using feedback and information about the behaviour of its users. Bumble found that women were starting chats with men more than twice as often as men, resulting in more opportunities for conversations, real relationships and offline meetups. Bumble also saw early signs that users were communicating in a healthy way with lower chat expiry and unmatching rates. - Advertisement - Bumble is adding moderation tools to promote respectful dialogue. Research has shown that dating standards are shifting, especially for Gen-Z women, who enjoy when males make the first move. Two-thirds of men and women both say they are more confident when they can control when and how conversations are started. Whitney Wolfe Herd, Founder and CEO of Bumble said, "We built Bumble around the belief that when you make dating better for women, you make it better for everyone and that remains true today. While women making the first move was a radical idea, being women-first was never about prescribing just one way to connect. It was about designing an experience with women's needs in mind to create better outcomes for everyone. Today, our community is asking for more flexibility, less pressure, and more opportunities to create real, meaningful connections and that is what this new experience provides. This evolution isn't a departure from our founding vision, but the realization of it." Support Gadget Bridge. Gadget Bridge is a humble media site trying to survive! Dating apps pivot from endless swiping to real-life events as Gen Z drives user decline

Major dating apps are pivoting away from the swiping model that built their businesses as user numbers decline and Gen Z seeks more meaningful connections. Match Group, which owns Tinder and Hinge, saw paying users drop 6% to 13.3 million in the second quarter, whilst Bumble's paying users fell 16.4% to 3.2 million. Global dating app downloads have declined for six consecutive years since peaking in 2019. Both companies are now emphasising quality over quantity. Tinder has expanded its Events feature to 10 cities, showing users local activities they can attend together. Bumble has eliminated its signature requirement that women message first and is testing a standalone app for curated in-person events. Hinge, which has long focused on conversation prompts rather than swiping, grew revenue 22% to $203.5 million last quarter, suggesting the strategy may work.

Dating app Bumble is changing a key rule for couples who match on its platform.

Dating app Bumble is changing a key rule for couples who match on its platform. Bumble hopes the changes will make connections easier for a busy clientele. Dating service Bumble is changing up one of its flagship features and will now allow men using the service to send the first message in a conversation. (Scripps News) By: Scripps News Group Posted 12:23 PM, Aug 12, 2026 and last updated 3 minutes ago Dating service Bumble is changing up one of its flagship features and will now allow men using the service to send the first message in a conversation. "Beginning today, anyone in a match can send the first message, while recipients will now have 72 hours, up from 24 hours, to respond, giving members greater opportunity to start conversations at their own pace," the company wrote. This is a big shift for Bumble, which launched in 2014 with a signature feature that gave women control over starting conversations. Bumble hopes the changes will make connections easier for a busy clientele. "Today, our community is asking for more flexibility, less pressure, and more opportunities to create real, meaningful connections and that is what this new experience provides," said CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd. "This evolution isn't a departure from our founding vision, but the realization of it." Bumble is making changes as the market for dating apps experiences a slowdown. Both Bumble and competitor Tinder have said paying users and overall revenue have both declined. In June, it was reported Bumble may seek a sale.

Bumble revenues fall 15% to $210M as product reset extends timeline

Bumble reported Q2 revenue of $210.5 million, meeting analyst expectations but representing a 15.2% year-on-year decline. The online dating app's non-GAAP earnings of $0.48 per share significantly exceeded the $0.23 consensus estimate. However, Q3 revenue guidance of $209 million came in 2.4% below analyst expectations of $214.1 million. Paying users fell to 3.16 million, down 620,000 year on year. CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd attributed the results to an ongoing quality reset and technical platform transformation. A delay in data migration extended the timeline for new product rollouts. Management said algorithmic and interaction improvements have begun showing early signs of stronger engagement. The company plans to accelerate product innovation and increase brand marketing investment once its technology migration completes, targeting younger users with new features including group-based social offerings.
