Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a related social services field, or equivalent experience; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience working with teens or young adults in employment, foster care, group care, housing, education, juvenile justice, anti-poverty, vocational support, mental health, chemical dependency, or homelessness fields.
  • Ability to teach effective independence skills for a variety of learning styles and plan supportive activities.
  • Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to transport self and clients safely and effectively, meet clients at community locations, and provide proof of adequate vehicle insurance coverage, or travel to areas without public transportation.
  • Current state-approved First Aid and CPR certification, obtained within 30 days of employment or at the first available training.
  • Current approved HIV blood-borne pathogens training, obtained within 30 days of employment or at the first available training.
  • Reliable transportation to meet clients and families in the community in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized services to youth and young adults in education, employment and career development, housing, technology, or another designated field, and support them in achieving their goals.
  • Build strong relationships with program participants to provide quality services.
  • Develop individualized, strengths-based, youth-driven service plans.
  • Provide case management support to permanent supportive housing clients as needed and perform other related assigned duties.
  • Understand contract and grant terms and conditions to ensure program outcome requirements are met and services are rendered appropriately to young adults.
  • Research best practices in the field and create and maintain a specialized resource library.
  • Maintain clear, professional, timely participant contact notes, service plans, progress updates, outcomes, and other documentation in designated databases.
  • Teach life skills, job readiness, or other subject matter individually and in groups, often experientially.
  • Work collaboratively with YMCA staff and community partners to plan and facilitate activities, including visits to related community resources.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with funding liaisons, service providers, businesses, and educational institutions related to specialized services.
  • Support participant success in safe and stable housing, permanent connections to supportive adults, education and employment, health and well-being, and life skills.
  • Assist with program coordination or other activities related to the job focus.
  • Participate in the YMCA annual fundraising campaign to engage community members in volunteerism and philanthropic support.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical ability, and sexual orientation.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
