About the job

Requirements
  • A university degree in Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Several years of professional experience in an industrial environment.
  • Understanding of the aerospace design and manufacturing ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with simulation and modelling tools for industrial processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of at least one manufacturing technique or process, such as Additive Layer Manufacturing, composites, low-observability materials, generation of build processes, or configuration control.
  • Experience in technology maturation or innovation processes and in Technology Readiness Level (TRL) or Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) methodology.
  • Ability to conceptualize and manage complex, interconnected systems.
  • Experience developing and optimizing large-scale industrial architectures.
  • Experience managing complex projects and coordinating stakeholders across disciplines.
  • Experience with agile project management methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work in a changing, incompletely planned environment, make assumptions, and begin work with incomplete requirements.
  • Ability to propose and implement innovative solutions in manufacturing processes.
  • Awareness of potential compliance risks and commitment to act with integrity.
  • Openness to emerging technologies and manufacturing methodologies, and commitment to continuous professional development.
Responsibilities
  • Define the industrial system technical baseline appropriate to each program phase, from early conceptual trade studies and technology or process maturation roadmaps through full production architecture as the design matures.
  • Coordinate the overall factory and production system, including flow type, station sequence, and the physical and logical layout connecting manufacturing disciplines.
  • Serve as the central technical coordination point across Manufacturing Engineering disciplines, including composites, metallics, tooling, assembly, systems installation, and ground test, ensuring process baselines are technically, temporally, and spatially compatible.
  • Lead cross-functional industrial system reviews and trade-offs with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering disciplines to validate industrial system design decisions against the evolving product design and align requirements, cost, schedule, and quality with program targets.
  • Define facility and infrastructure technical requirements for the industrial system and act as technical authority for industrial milestones and decisions, including trade-offs, industrial reviews, configuration changes, make-buy strategy, and manufacturing baseline.
  • Partner with Industrial Management throughout the program by providing the industrial system architecture technical baseline that informs production execution, resourcing, and delivery decisions, and adjust the system design as real-world constraints emerge.
  • Contribute to the management of risks and opportunities within industrial activities.
  • Support development and implementation of Process Methods and Tools and digital systems, including MES, PLM, SAP, data systems, and security, within the industrial perimeter.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes, tooling, and work instructions comply with applicable Airbus standards, airworthiness requirements, and health and safety regulations.
  • Participate in technology and innovation projects to close program technology gaps or improve time and cost, advancing the TRL and MRL of relevant processes and materials.
  • Apply a Design for Manufacturing and Assembly mindset.
Desired Qualifications
  • Additional qualifications in Systems Engineering or Project Management.
  • Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering and Product Lifecycle Management tools, such as CATIA and 3DX.
  • Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of German.

Airbus tests US-built Valkyrie drone in Europe, eyes 2029 delivery at about $22M per unit

Airbus has flown a US-built Valkyrie drone in Europe for the first time, aiming to show that regulatory barriers to military drones in European airspace can be overcome. The September 29 flight over northern Europe did not yet include Airbus' European mission system, said Michael Schoellhorn, chief executive officer of Airbus Defence and Space. The drone, developed by US-based Kratos Defense, reached Mach 0.8. Airbus hopes to team it with Eurofighter jets and supply the German Air Force with combat drones by 2029. The next test flight, with Airbus' MARS Mission System on board, is expected in the first quarter of 2027. A first flight with a Eurofighter is scheduled later that year. Schoellhorn put the cost at around €20 million per unit and estimated German needs at around 500 drones.

Airbus A350F freighter completes maiden flight with 4.3m cargo door for servers

Airbus has successfully completed the first flight of its A350F freighter, bringing the aerospace giant closer to delivering a high-capacity cargo aircraft. The plane took off from Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France, flying for four hours and ten minutes and reaching 25,000 feet. The A350F can carry a payload of 109 tonnes, compared to 64 tonnes for the existing A330F. It features a 4.3-metre cargo door large enough to accommodate turbofan engines and high-density computer servers. Airbus claims the A350F is more efficient than Boeing's rival 777F, despite having slightly less capacity. The company has already received orders for 115 A350Fs. A second test aircraft is nearly complete as Airbus begins the certification process requiring hundreds of test flights.

Airbus and Qantas back $30M funding for Australian SAF developer Jet Zero

Jet Zero Australia has raised $30 million to advance Project Ulysses, a commercial-scale sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel refinery in Townsville. The funding round was backed by institutional investors including Qantas and Airbus, both returning investors from 2023. South Korean company Posco International joined as a new strategic investor, with the parties exploring opportunities in fuel offtake, infrastructure and feedstock. The capital will fund completion of Front-End Engineering Design and support the project's progress towards Final Investment Decision and construction. Founded in 2021 by Ed Mason, Jet Zero develops biofuels production capacity in regional Australia. The project has received its final Development Permit Decision Notice from Queensland's Office of the Coordinator-General. It is expected to create approximately 1,000 construction jobs and 100 permanent operational roles.
