Field Operations Technician
About the job
- Hold a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
- Own and operate an SUV or truck and be able to transport 500 pounds of equipment.
- Have at least one year of experience in a low-voltage wiring position.
- Have an experienced understanding of CAT5/6 terminations, including using an RJ-45 crimper, punch-down tool, cable tester, keystone jacks, modular plugs, and patch panels.
- Be able to lift heavy and large objects, climb ladders, and work on tall buildings.
- Demonstrate high ethical standards, a strong work ethic, and commitment to the team.
- Install, terminate, and troubleshoot CAT6 riser and shielded cables on patch panels and RJ-45 modular plugs.
- Route cabling through existing riser closets in different building types and create new cabling pathways from MDF to IDF closets and rooftops by coring and using EMT conduit, sleeves, and PVC.
- Install roof mounts and wireless radios on buildings and calibrate radios with team members to create building-to-building connections.
- Install server racks and equipment in MDF and IDF closets, and organize cabling using D-rings, O-rings, clamps, and cable organizers.
- Participate in the on-call team one week per month and be available 24/7 for emergencies.
- Troubleshoot network outages and service-impacting issues.
- Document completed work, materials used, and site conditions.
- Install network switches and routers.
- Experience in specialized technical courses or equivalent work experience.
- Fiber splicing experience.
