Roblox provides a global virtual platform where people, especially under 18, can learn, work, play, and socialize by joining games and experiences created by a large community of developers. Using Roblox Studio, creators build immersive multiplayer experiences that run on the platform for others to explore and enjoy. The platform supports cross‑device access and social features, allowing players to interact, team up, and share content. Revenue comes from in‑platform purchases (such as virtual currency and items) and subscriptions, fueling a large ecosystem for both players and creators. What sets Roblox apart is its emphasis on user‑generated content and a scalable marketplace where millions of new games and experiences are continuously added by the community, rather than a single author-driven catalog. The company aims to connect people through shared, accessible digital experiences and to empower developers to build, monetize, and grow their communities on the platform.

Roblox is launching Roblox Build, an AI-powered tool that enables users to create games directly from its mobile app. CEO David Baszucki predicts AI will increase the number of creators rather than reduce them, as the technology makes game development more accessible. The new tool generates code, 3D scenes, and avatars, lowering barriers to entry for aspiring game developers. The move reflects Roblox's broader strategy to democratise game creation through artificial intelligence. By simplifying technical aspects of development, the platform aims to attract users who may lack traditional coding skills.

Business & Corporate Law
The most viral Roblox games are about to break containment. Creators will soon be able to upload their games as standalone apps Roblox is the biggest gaming platform on the planet, but its viral hits and the subcultures that sprout up around them have mostly been siloed from the rest of the internet. That's about to change. Roblox Everywhere was announced on September 11, a way for the company, currently under investigation for child safety, to deliver games directly to players inside dedicated apps. "Our vision for Roblox Everywhere is to enable creators to reach audiences where they already are," the company wrote in a blog post about this week's Roblox Developers Conference. "Soon, creators will have the option to make their games available as standalone apps across mobile, PC, and consoles, with Roblox powering the technology and services underneath." This will make it easier for people to enter the Roblox ecosystem and allow newcomers to play with those already on the Roblox app via cross-play. The company announced a bunch of other forthcoming features as well that have the potential to supercharge a platform that's already bigger than the entirety of Steam. "By the end of this year, players will be able to join a game in-browser on Chrome (more browsers to follow) from a game's Experience Details Page - no app or install required," the company continued. "Web player allows players to click a link from anywhere (search, YouTube, X, an email from a friend, or a creator's social channel) and start playing instantly." Roblox also plans to have developers enable new features that will make offline play more seamless for people on the go, and make it easier for players to follow one another between games and chat across them. The company is investing in new tools to encourage the creation of 2D games (Roblox is currently dominated by 3D social sandboxes), and better discovery mechanisms to potentially lead to a more vibrant ecosystem less dominated by exploitative slop. And of course, there's generative AI. "Coming later this year, Scene Generator will power prompt-to-scene functionality across both Build and Studio, with greater creator control available in Studio," Roblox revealed. "By providing a text prompt and reference image, creators can generate a fully functional layout - then refine it in Studio." With this feature arriving alongside mobile-first development tools to make it easier to create short experiences, Roblox seems to be pulling the ripcord on its existing UGC production pipelines to buoy its flagging financials. And what do shareholders love more than a financial services side business? Roblox also announced a new Roblox credit card today that will help it bypass Apple and Google's app store taxes while also giving players discounts on Robux (the in-game currency) purchased with the credit card. "Roblox Card connects to Roblox Wallet, enabling creators to spend their available balance directly, anywhere it's accepted," the company wrote. "We plan to begin rolling out Roblox Card in 2027." Roblox is launching a digital wallet in December to streamline creator payments. The wallet will allow US-based adult creators to automatically receive daily real-world revenue from their games and transfer it to bank accounts, eliminating manual conversion requests for Robux, the platform's virtual currency. Since 2013, Roblox has paid creators over $5 billion, including $1.7 billion in the past year. The median earnings amongst roughly 42,000 paid creators is about $1,500 annually. The company also announced users will be able to launch games directly from Chrome browsers by year-end, bypassing the Roblox app. Creators can distribute games as standalone apps across mobile, PC, and consoles. The wallet, managed by payment company Airwallex, will expand internationally in 2027.
Roblox announced platform updates at its 12th annual Roblox Developers Conference, unveiling new features for creators and players. The company plans to let creators distribute games as standalone apps across mobile, PC, and consoles, whilst maintaining Roblox's underlying technology. By year-end, players will access games directly in Chrome browsers without downloads. The platform is expanding capabilities to support 2D games, introducing features including an orthographic camera and sprite-sheet import. Additional updates include offline play mode, cross-game friends chat, and voice typing functionality. Last quarter, players spent 29 billion hours on Roblox across over 180 countries. The announcements mark Roblox's 20th anniversary and aim to expand creator reach and player accessibility across devices and platforms.
