Requirements
  • A high school diploma or educational equivalent is required.
  • A valid driver's license may be required based on the position and location.
  • The employee must hold or obtain Registered Behavior Technician certification within one year of appointment, or be a Licensed Psych Technician or Qualified Behavior Modification Professional for California assignments.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills are required.

  • The employee must be willing to take initiative.
  • The employee must be able to meet the essential physical demands of the position, including frequent walking, sitting, standing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling objects and controls, assisting with lifting or moving individuals, pushing individuals in wheelchairs, lifting or moving up to 25 pounds, and implementing emergency interventions as required by individual support plans.
  • For California Enhanced Behavioral Supports Homes and Community Crisis Homes, at least six months of prior direct-care experience with individuals with developmental disabilities is required.
  • For California assignments, State of California Direct Support Professional Training Year 1 and Year 2 courses must be completed within one year of appointment.
  • For California assignments, CPR, First Aid, Ukeru, and CPI certifications must be held or obtained through employer-provided training and recertified annually.
  • A health screening must be completed for California assignments.
  • Annual continuing education units must be completed for California assignments as required by Titles 17 and 22.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise, protect, and care for supported individuals at all times, maintain house rules, facilitate fire-safety learning and training, and identify and appropriately escalate potential harm to self or others.
  • Provide support in a variety of settings according to individualized service and behavior support plans, using support skills for people with moderate to complex needs.
  • Provide appropriate supervision, manage crisis situations, and comply with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure health, wellness, and safety.
  • Implement protective-oversight plans and Individual Behavior Support Plans and Individualized Program Plans.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work and therapy environment, perform facility safety upkeep, use safe handling procedures, and implement COVID mitigation and infection-control protocols.
  • Assist individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, uphold their personal rights, provide emotional support, and build positive relationships.
  • Support people in meeting personal quality-of-life goals, communicate respectfully using person-first language, encourage socializing, and facilitate activities that build community connections.
  • Implement person-centered plans and provide authorized support including personal care, activities of daily living, medication administration according to guidelines, skill development, advocacy, communication and self-expression support, dispute resolution, ethical decision-making, meal planning and preparation, transportation and escorting, purchasing assistance, and safeguarding personal funds.
  • Complete and maintain required training and apply the skills in compliance with YAI policies and licensing regulations.
  • Review communication logs daily and enter events, progress notes, services, and other information; collect and enter operational data in an electronic health record.
  • Complete required paperwork and documentation accurately and within required timeframes, including notifications, incident reports, file updates, maintenance requests, phone calls, incident tracking, and evening and weekend reports.
  • Maintain a therapeutic environment using Personal Outcome Measures, Person-Centered Thinking, Informed Decision Making, and Trauma-Informed Approaches.
  • Provide feedback, communicate programmatic needs to team members, and maintain a solution-oriented approach during conflicts.
  • Consult with program leadership, clinical staff, and other direct-support staff to coordinate quality care and attend and actively participate in team meetings.
  • Use foundational and progressive teaching skills, including EMOE, task analysis, essential skills, supports, and modifications.
  • Comply with Federal, State, local, and other regulatory requirements, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Complete and maintain Behavior Analyst Certification Board requirements for Registered Behavior Technician or Licensed Psych Technician certification and other required recertifications and training.
  • Demonstrate and model Direct Support Professional and Registered Behavior Technician skills using person-centered and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Under appropriate supervision, participate in treatment-plan development, develop specialized clinical knowledge for person-specific needs, implement Behavior Support Plans, collect and summarize data on observable behavior, report behavioral changes and signs or symptoms to a supervisor, and communicate individual progress to authorized representatives as instructed by the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in a Human Services field such as social work or psychology.
  • Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities, clinical syndromes, and intellectual or developmental disabilities with co-occurring behavioral or mental health needs.
  • A valid driver's license is strongly preferred for California assignments.
