About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), Chemical Engineering, Environmental Health, or a closely related technical discipline is required.
  • At least 5 years of direct technical experience in industrial hygiene, occupational chemical exposure assessment, or chemical safety engineering within manufacturing or top-tier technical consulting environments is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in chemical exposure pathways, raw process chemistries such as solvents, cleaners, adhesives, and inks, and Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL) frameworks is required.
  • A proven track record leading complex technical programs or initiatives and turning undefined technical challenges into structured, executed roadmaps is required.
  • Experience managing external technical vendors, consulting firms, or Third-Party Assessors (TPAs), including scope definition, budget management, and deliverable accountability, is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to bridge technical discussions with scientists and operational reviews with Engineering and Operations teams are required.
  • Professional fluency in spoken and written English and Mandarin is required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally across APAC manufacturing facilities 25–35% of the time is required.
Responsibilities
  • Convert ambiguous chemical exposure and occupational health challenges across the supply chain into structured initiatives with clear milestones, ownership, and scale-up strategies.
  • Partner with Engineering and Operations teams, toxicologists, and Product Design to architect and embed industrial hygiene evaluation gates into new material qualification workflows.
  • Lead cross-functional replacement roadmaps for chemistries that do not comply with the Apple Regulated Substances Specification (RSS), resolving technical trade-offs between material performance, cost, and worker health.
  • Develop, standardize, and scale global manufacturing volatile organic compound (VOC) standards and chemical handling requirements across component and final assembly facilities.
  • Direct Third-Party Assessor (TPA) partners by defining technical statements of work, managing vendor execution, and holding external consulting firms accountable for field deliverables.
  • Identify systemic exposure risks in non-routine operations, including new product introduction (NPI) builds, line maintenance, and residue handling, and design engineering-control governance models that do not rely on static paperwork.
  • Synthesize technical findings and program status into narratives and scorecards for senior Operations leadership to drive alignment.
  • Establish scalable assessment frameworks and continuous improvement roadmaps across regional APAC suppliers to build industry-wide capability.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
  • A Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential is strongly preferred.
  • Formal project management certifications such as PMP are a value-add only when supported by a foundational career in industrial hygiene or occupational chemical safety.
  • Direct experience integrating chemical hazard or health-and-safety gates into New Product Introduction (NPI) or engineering material qualification processes is preferred.
  • Hands-on familiarity with consumer electronics assembly (FATP) or sub-tier component manufacturing operations is preferred.
  • Experience architecting corporate chemical policies, including volatile organic compound (VOC) limits, restricted-substance phase-outs, or chemical hazard screening frameworks such as GreenScreen® or EPA Safer Choice, is preferred.
  • A systems-thinking approach to identifying leverage points across complex, multi-tiered global supply chains to drive industry-level change is preferred.
  • Resilience and comfort making sound technical decisions and driving progress with incomplete information in fast-paced operational environments are preferred.

Apple to hold second event in October, with touchscreen MacBook Pro expected on October 28

Apple will hold its second marquee event this month on October 28 in Los Angeles, a rarity for the company. The event carries the tagline "Pro and tell." Apple is expected to unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, plus a new iMac and iPad Mini. Chief executive officer John Ternus has said he wants more frequent product launches. Apple's third-quarter revenue rose 16% to $109.4 billion, and earnings per share rose 29% to $2.02. iPhone sales grew 22% to $54.3 billion. Apple's market value is about $5 trillion, and its stock is up 26% this year.

iPhone Duo waits are 50 days at US carriers versus 102 at Apple, Bank of America says

Buyers of Apple's iPhone Duo foldable may wait far less by ordering through US carriers. A Bank of America note dated October 19 puts the average carrier wait at about 50 days, against 102 days on Apple's own store. The global weighted average wait stands at 82 days. China, Japan, the UK, Germany, France and Australia all show 95 days, pushing delivery to about January 22. Analyst Wamsi Mohan said carrier availability "appears to be much better than Apple's own website," possibly due to varying inventory allocations. Carrier purchases usually tie buyers to that carrier's instalment plan. Wait times for the iPhone 18 Pro are shrinking, falling to eight days globally and four in China. Apple reports September quarter results on November 2.

Apple hits $5T market cap but trades at 40x earnings: buy now or wait for a dip?

Apple is one of the best-performing stocks on US markets, though it trails rivals in artificial intelligence (AI). Its shares are up about 26% this year, giving it a market cap of $5 trillion. Only Nvidia, at around $5.3 trillion, is worth more. The stock trades at close to 40 times trailing earnings, which raises expectations. Apple reports earnings next month, its first under new chief executive officer John Ternus, who took over from Tim Cook at the start of September. Investors will watch demand for the iPhone 18 and the foldable iPhone Duo, which starts at $1,999. Weak demand could trigger a correction. The author advises waiting to buy, as Apple's revenue has grown by less than 6% over the past three fiscal years.

Zuckerberg thanks Apple's new CEO on X, not Threads, for Mac Studios running Meta's AI model

Meta chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg publicly thanked Apple's new chief executive officer, John Ternus, on October 15 for help running Meta's latest AI model on Apple hardware. He posted on Elon Musk's X, not Meta's own Threads, to tag him. The model, Muse Spark Open, has 816 billion parameters and is free to download. It runs on two or four Mac Studios linked together, each with Apple's M5 Ultra chip. A Mac Studio with that chip starts at $5,499. The thanks mark a thaw. The companies clashed over privacy, and Apple's 2021 tracking changes cut an estimated $10 billion from Meta's 2022 revenue. Neither company has said whether more joint projects are planned.
