Requirements
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • At least two years of experience working with children, including camps, child care, tutoring, or nannying, is required.
  • Candidates must have experience planning and implementing group activities.
  • Candidates must have completed 12 credits of 100-level or above college coursework and possess a GED or high school diploma.
  • Candidates must complete the minimum required STARS training.
  • Candidates must hold CPR and first-aid certification.
  • Candidates must complete pre-employment tuberculosis testing and receive the required measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination.
  • Candidates must hold a food worker card.
  • Candidates must obtain a cleared Portable Background Check in the statewide MERIT registry.
  • Employees must adhere to abuse-prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated-reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum provided by the YDCoE.
  • Supervise a group of children to ensure their health and safety and provide a positive experience for each child.
  • Provide guidance to staff and volunteers overseeing activities for groups of children when needed.
  • Communicate day-to-day, confidential, and evaluative information professionally with parents and guardians.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those concerning medical and disciplinary situations, child-abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining a developmentally appropriate site, including its appearance, décor, and cleanliness.
  • Prepare and serve snacks when needed and clean the snack area.
  • Assist with parent check-in and check-out.
  • Assume responsibility for program operation when DCYF-designated and qualified staff are not on the premises.
  • Provide on-site support for the school-based Play Everyday Program.
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Supervise staff by ensuring they are properly screened, trained, supervised, and held accountable to the organization’s abuse-risk-management standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Candidates aged 21 or older are preferred.
  • One to two years of leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical ability, and sexual orientation, is preferred.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English is preferred.
