AI userbase expands, driven by trust and brand recognition.

AI userbase expands, driven by trust and brand recognition. The rapid escalation in consumer engagement with AI across purchase journeys is unmistakable. A recent BCG study that involved 13,000 participants across 12 markets revealed a striking threefold increase in consumers using AI for shopping compared to eighteen months prior. This leap underscores an emerging trust in AI's recommendations, with a substantial 70% of committed AI users purchasing products suggested by these technologies. As the Phrase Blog highlights, AI is no longer a peripheral element in commerce but is increasingly central to consumer decision-making processes. Brand recognition remains pivotal, despite the growing influence of AI. The same study pointed out that 89% of consumers consider recognizing the seller's brand as important or very important. This statistic highlights the dual role of AI: not only is it a tool for discovery, as evidenced by 50% of AI-assisted journeys introducing consumers to previously unknown brands, but it also underscores the enduring importance of brand trust. Llibert Argerich, the first CMO at Thumbtack, emphasized the value of content that builds trust, authority, and expertise, cementing AI's potential as a powerful conduit for brand narratives. Moreover, the seamless integration of AI into consumer journeys necessitates meticulous content strategy. Georg Ell, CEO of Phrase, champions content that transcends mere translation, advocating for narratives that motivate and trigger action. With Thumbtack's recent partnerships with AI platforms like ChatGPT and Claude, the synergy between AI technology and strategic content marketing is poised to deepen. This, coupled with the projection that consumer trust in AI will increase significantly by 2030, points to a transformative era where AI and brand engagement harmoniously coexist. These insights underscore a pivotal shift in how companies might approach both AI technology and brand management. Businesses need to harness AI's potential to introduce new brands while reinforcing the vital role of brand recognition and trust. As AI adoption grows, firms must remain vigilant, ensuring their content strategies are agile and their brand integrity is preserved across expanding digital landscapes. This balance is crucial as the market continues to evolve, steering towards a future where AI and human-centric content strategies coexist symbiotically. Intelligence. Notable Long-Term Why this matters * AI is reshaping consumer decision-making processes. * Brand trust remains crucial despite AI's influence. * Companies must adapt content strategies for AI integration. What is Thumbtack and how does it work for contractors? (2026).

What is Thumbtack and how does it work for contractors? (2026). Thumbtack explained for contractors: how the leads work, what they cost ($25 to $75 for most trades), why you share them with four other pros, and when it is worth it. Thumbtack is a website and app where homeowners describe a job they need done and get matched with local pros who can do it. For the homeowner it is free. For the contractor it is pay per lead: you get charged when a homeowner contacts you or you respond to their request, whether or not you win the job. That is the whole model. Everything else, the pricing, the reviews, the complaints, comes from how that model plays out. This post walks through how it works from the contractor side, what it costs in 2026, and when it is worth running. Placed build websites and do local SEO for contractors, so Placed compete with Thumbtack for your marketing dollar. Placed will be honest about that. How Thumbtack works. A homeowner goes to Thumbtack, picks a category like "electrical repair" or "water heater installation," answers a few questions about the job, and enters a zip code. Thumbtack shows them a list of matching pros with star ratings, reviews, and starting prices. The homeowner can message one, or several. On your side, you set up a free profile with your services, your service area, photos, and reviews. Then you pick how leads reach you. There are two ways: Direct leads. A homeowner sees your profile and messages you. You are charged when they reach out. This is the main way Thumbtack works now. Opportunities. A homeowner posts a job and Thumbtack shows it to pros who match. You choose whether to respond. If you do, you are charged. Either way, you pay for the contact, not the job. Thumbtack's own numbers say most jobs get shown to four or five pros, and the pros who win are almost always the ones who answer first. One industry study found that around three out of four homeowners go with whoever responds first. What Thumbtack costs contractors in 2026. There is no signup fee and no monthly fee. That is the main difference from Angi and HomeAdvisor, which both charge an annual membership on top of lead fees. Lead prices are set by Thumbtack, not you, and they change weekly based on the job type, the area, the season, and how many pros are competing. Thumbtack does not publish a rate card. The only real number is the one inside your pro account for your service and your zip codes. That said, contractors report a fairly consistent range. Small jobs like cleaning or handyman work run around $8 to $25 a lead. Most home service trades, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, land somewhere between $25 and $75. Big-ticket work like kitchen remodels can run $100 to $150 or more per lead. An HVAC lead in a hot market in July costs more than the same lead in January. Two controls keep it from getting out of hand. You can set a maximum price you will pay for a lead, and you can set a weekly budget. Once you hit the budget, leads stop until the next week. Thumbtack also lets you request a refund on leads that were not real, wrong service, wrong area, spam, if you file within 45 days. The math that decides whether it is worth it. Lead price is the wrong number to look at. What matters is cost per booked job. Say you pay $50 a lead. Because the lead is shared with four other pros, you might close one in five. That is $250 per booked job. If your average ticket is $1,500, that works. If you are doing $300 outlet repairs, it does not. Now say you close one in ten, which is common for contractors who cannot answer messages within a few minutes. That is $500 per booked job. At that point you need an average ticket well above $2,000 for Thumbtack to break even after materials and labor. The pattern Placed see: Thumbtack works for contractors who respond within five minutes, close 15 to 25 percent of leads, and sell jobs above $1,000. It loses money for contractors who check the app twice a day, close under 10 percent, and do small repair work. What contractors complain about. Read any Thumbtack review from a pro and the same four things come up. Shared leads. You are paying to be one of five people quoting the same job. The homeowner often picks on price or speed, not quality. Paying for ghosts. You get charged when a homeowner contacts you. Some of them never reply again. The refund process helps but it takes effort and does not cover everything. Prices that move. A lead that cost $30 in March costs $55 in June, and there is no notice. Contractors who do not check weekly get surprised. You do not own anything. Your reviews, your profile, your ranking inside the app all belong to Thumbtack. If you stop paying, or the platform changes its rules, it is gone. None of that makes Thumbtack a scam. It is a real company with a real marketplace and it sends real homeowners. It is just a rented channel with the costs and risks of renting. Sites like Thumbtack. If you are comparing options, here is how the other lead sources stack up for a home service contractor. Angi and HomeAdvisor. Same shared-lead model, but with an annual fee on top and a worse refund policy. You are charged when a lead is sent, not when the homeowner replies. Placed covered both in detail: Angi for contractors and HomeAdvisor for contractors. Google Local Services Ads. Also pay per lead, but the leads are exclusive to you, they come as phone calls, and they show at the very top of Google with the Google Guaranteed badge. In 2026 they average about $53 a lead with a booking rate near 44 percent, which is roughly three times what most contractors see on Thumbtack. For most established trades, LSA beats Thumbtack on cost per booked job even though the lead price looks higher. Full breakdown in its Local Services Ads guide. Yelp. Pay per click ads with a reputation for aggressive sales calls and poor targeting for trades. Works for restaurants. Rarely worth it for contractors. Nextdoor. Cheap and neighborhood-level. Good for building name recognition in a few zip codes, not for volume. Your own website and Google Business Profile. The only channel on this list where the lead is exclusive, free once it arrives, and yours to keep. It takes months to build instead of days, which is the tradeoff. When Thumbtack makes sense. Thumbtack is a good fit in three situations. * You are new and have no reviews. Thumbtack gets you in front of homeowners on day one, and the reviews you earn there can be asked for on Google too. * You have a slow season and open capacity. Turn the weekly budget up when the calendar is empty, down when it is full. * You sell mid to high ticket work and can answer fast. If someone in your office can respond in minutes, the shared-lead problem mostly goes away because you are the first response. It is a poor fit if you do small repair work, cannot answer quickly, or are hoping it will replace marketing you own. How to get more out of it if you use it. * Respond in under five minutes. This is the single biggest lever. Set up notifications so the message hits your phone, not your inbox. * Narrow your services and zip codes. Turn off jobs you do not want and areas you will not drive to. Fewer bad leads means a lower real cost per job. * Set a max lead price and check it weekly. Prices move. Do not let them move on you. * File refunds. Every ghost lead you do not dispute is money left on the table. * Ask every Thumbtack customer for a Google review too. The Thumbtack review helps you inside the app. The Google review helps you everywhere. Common questions. Is Thumbtack free for contractors? Setting up a profile is free. You pay per lead when a homeowner contacts you or you respond to a job request. There is no membership or annual fee. How much does Thumbtack charge per lead? It depends on the job, the area, and the week. Most home service trades pay somewhere between $25 and $75 per lead in 2026. Small jobs are cheaper, large remodels are more. Your account shows the actual range for your services. Is Thumbtack legit? Yes. It is a real marketplace that connects real homeowners with pros. Whether it is worth the money is a separate question that depends on your close rate and your average ticket. Does Thumbtack share leads? Yes. Most jobs are shown to four or five matching pros, and each one who responds is charged. That is the main reason cost per booked job ends up higher than the lead price suggests. Thumbtack or Google Local Services Ads? For most established contractors, LSA. The leads are exclusive, they come as calls, and the booking rate is much higher. Thumbtack is faster to start and has no verification wait, so it can make sense while LSA approval is pending or as a slow-season top-up. If you are a contractor in Clark County or the Portland metro and you are paying Thumbtack or Angi every month for leads you have to share, its Vancouver WA SEO page explains how Placed replace that spend over time with calls from the map and your own website. Placed will tell you honestly whether it makes sense for your trade and ticket size.

Nail the Price

You found the price. Now find the pro.

You found the price. Now find the pro. NailThePrice has partnered with Thumbtack to bring local pro listings directly into every city page. Research costs and find a contractor in one place. By Matt Kovalik · Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026 If you have ever gotten a quote that felt completely off - too high, too low, no clear explanation - that is the gap NailThePrice was built to close. Every page on this site gives you a real, localized number for what a project should cost in your city, calculated from Bureau of Labor Statistics labor rates and local cost-of-living data. That number is your anchor before you talk to anyone. But knowing what something should cost is only half the problem. You still need to find someone qualified to do the work. That second step - starting a whole new search, collecting names, vetting reviews on a different site - is friction most homeowners just accept. Today, you do not have to. What's new on every page. NailThePrice has partnered with Thumbtack to bring local pro listings directly into every city page on the site. Every project page now includes a search widget that lets you find contractors near you by zip code and project type, browse verified ratings and reviews, and request quotes without leaving the page. If you are on the Minneapolis EV charger installation page, you will see licensed electricians working in your area. If you are on the Denver roof replacement page, you will see local roofers with real reviews. The pricing data and the contractor search are now in the same place. Why Thumbtack. Thumbtack connects homeowners with more than 300,000 local service professionals across every county in the United States, spanning 500 service categories. Their pros have verified reviews and ratings from real completed jobs. Nailtheprice chose Thumbtack because their coverage matches ours - if NailThePrice has a page for your city and project, Thumbtack has pros who can do the work. Why Nailtheprice built this into the site. I am a licensed electrician. I have watched homeowners walk into contractor conversations with no frame of reference for what a job should cost, and I have seen that information gap get exploited. That is why I built NailThePrice - so the number you need to anchor that conversation is a search away, localized to your actual market, not a national average that may have nothing to do with where you live. The Thumbtack integration closes the second gap. You should not have to research costs on one site then start over on another to find a contractor. The research and the hiring step belong on the same page. Pro tip: The widget uses your page's zip code by default. If you want quotes in a specific neighborhood or nearby city, update the zip directly in the search box. The integration is live now across all 90 project categories and 289 cities. Look for the Find a pro section on any city page.
