About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field is required.
  • At least 10 years of experience in PNT systems, navigation algorithm development, or timing and synchronization engineering for satellite or distributed systems is required.
  • Hands-on experience developing estimation algorithms for orbit determination, clock estimation, or sensor fusion is required.
  • Working knowledge of time transfer methods and clock characterization is required.
  • Experience with GNSS-based navigation and an understanding of performance under degraded or denied conditions are required.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python for algorithm development, simulation, and analysis is required.
  • Ability to frame and close architectural trades by scoping the question, identifying binding constraints, and documenting defensible outcomes is required.
  • Ability to present PNT architecture and trade results clearly to domain specialists and program leadership is required.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the timing and synchronization architecture for the TeraWave constellation, including time transfer methods, clock management and steering, synchronization performance budgets, and allocation of timing requirements across space and ground segments.
  • Architect onboard satellite timing synchronization using established methods as an immediate priority before evaluating alternative or augmented approaches.
  • Develop and validate PNT estimation algorithms for orbit determination, clock estimation, and sensor fusion using inter-satellite link measurements, GNSS observables, and ground-based tracking data.
  • Build simulation frameworks to characterize estimation filter performance, timing stability, and sensitivity to degraded or denied external references.
  • Conduct architectural trades across PNT approaches, evaluate methods, quantify performance and robustness, and document trade outcomes as a basis for design decisions.
  • Define the PNT resilience posture for constellation operations, including required accuracy and availability under denial or degradation conditions and architectural features that provide assurance.
  • Develop the execution plan and technical case for a focused PNT team by scoping skills, sequencing work, and defining what must be proven before implementation.
  • Coordinate with payload, flight software, ground, and network teams to ensure PNT and timing requirements are understood, allocated, and verifiable at interfaces.
  • Own the system outcome through hardware and software development, production, and deployment at scale.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with inter-satellite link ranging or navigation using optical or RF crosslinks.
  • Background in LEO constellation operations, orbit maintenance, or flight dynamics.
  • Familiarity with satellite timing architectures, including PTP/NTP adaptation for space, TWSTFT, and onboard clock steering.
  • Experience building or leading a small technical team from inception.
  • Experience with simulation tools and frameworks for Monte Carlo analysis of estimation performance.
  • Familiarity with astrodynamics tools.
  • An MS or PhD is preferred.

About the Company

Blue Origin

Builds rockets, engines and lunar spacecraft

Blue Origin builds rockets, engines and spacecraft for commercial satellite operators and government space programs. Its New Glenn orbital rocket uses a reusable first stage, while Blue Moon landers are designed to transport cargo and astronauts to the lunar surface. The company designs and manufactures liquid-fueled propulsion systems, and its New Shepard vehicle is built for short suborbital trips carrying people and research payloads. Customers pay for launch services and engines, and government development contracts fund work on systems for exploration beyond Earth orbit. Founded by Jeff Bezos in 2000, Blue Origin is headquartered in Kent, Washington.
