About the Job

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of experience in venture capital, early-stage investing, startups, or a related field.
  • An established network and ability to build relationships across founders, community groups, angels, microfunds, operators, and investors.
  • Ability to recruit high-potential scouts, help them develop their networks and judgment, and maintain a consistent bar across a distributed team.
  • Ability to recognize exceptional founders early, including those who may not fit obvious or over-credentialed patterns.
  • Ability to source opportunities through consistent engagement in founder communities.
  • Ability to manage a direct and scout-driven pipeline with timely follow-ups, clear prioritization, strong customer relationship management hygiene, and thoughtful portfolio tracking.
  • Ability to diagnose gaps in ecosystem coverage and design ways to build sustained relationships across relevant communities.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of responsibilities, and improve workflows.
  • Ability to earn trust by creating value for founders and partners and sustain relationships beyond any immediate deal.
  • Ability to build from ambiguity and treat the sourcing engine as a product to improve.
  • Ability to communicate with empathy and credibility so founders feel understood and respected.
  • Ability to leverage artificial intelligence and emerging tools to improve productivity and team reach.

Responsibilities

  • Shape, launch, and run a dedicated scout investment vehicle with meaningful day-to-day autonomy.
  • Work with the investment team to set strategy, investment guardrails, scout allocations, and portfolio approach; oversee early-stage checks and track backed companies.
  • Identify opportunities for Redesign’s main fund to support in later rounds.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a distributed group of scouts across campuses, cities, and founder communities; provide them with judgment, context, and authority to make investments within program guardrails.
  • Set a high bar for scout selection, support scout development, and hold the network accountable for investment quality and founder relationships.
  • Build a trusted network across founders, angels, venture funds, operators, and entrepreneurial communities, including in communities Redesign does not yet reach.
  • Track emerging talent and share insights with the investment team.
  • Source high-potential founders from pre-idea exploration through pre-seed companies through operator networks, universities, accelerators, events, dinners, and digital communities, as well as desk sourcing.
  • Maintain a high-quality pipeline and make warm introductions to the investment team when there is a strong fit.
  • Develop and refine a view of exceptional founders, screen opportunities against Redesign’s founder bar, share judgment signals, and improve how the team identifies and engages promising founders.
  • Build and refine an artificial-intelligence-enabled sourcing system using data signals, network mapping, market monitoring, and workflow automation to identify founder targets, prioritize outreach, track scout activity, and improve pipeline quality and reach.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience sourcing founders, building entrepreneurial communities, or recruiting and developing scout or investment networks is strongly preferred.
