Requirements
  • Experience working with an at-risk student population in some capacity is preferred.
  • Knowledge of childhood development and demonstrated experience executing planned lessons to meet the differentiated needs of each child.
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • New York State Special Education certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct special education services to students to meet the requirements of their Individualized Education Plans and address other educational needs.
  • Work with teachers, the Principal, specialists, parents, and Committee on Special Education representatives to develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans.
  • Assume personal responsibility for the academic progress of all students.
  • Implement a coherent, research-based curriculum in consultation with the Principal.
  • Differentiate lesson plans for students with Individualized Education Plans in an inclusion setting and implement the plans as necessary.
  • Implement all state and federal mandates for students with Individualized Education Plans.
  • Document lesson plans, assignments, rubrics, and other instructional materials and methods.
  • Use consistent school-wide practices and individualized methods to engage students in the classroom.
  • Use technology tools for instruction, planning, and communication and ensure student engagement.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Establish, involve, and assist students in the development, maintenance, and evaluation of portfolios.
