Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and two years of experience in an information technology field, an associate's degree and four years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling six years.
  • Experience administering Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) systems.
  • Experience with Apache Tomcat or similar technology.
  • Familiarity with VMware virtualization environments, Azure, AWS, and other relevant public cloud hosting environments.
  • Scripting experience with common scripting and development languages such as Python, PHP, Bash, and PowerShell.
  • Experience tuning, troubleshooting, and monitoring application and system performance.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies on a near-constant basis.
  • Development Operations (DevOps) experience.
  • Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) experience.
  • Experience with container orchestration tools such as Docker, Docker Engine, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Salt, Puppet, and Systems Center Configuration Manager.
  • Experience with application programming interfaces (APIs).
  • Experience, exposure, or knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering and its practices.
  • Documentation and knowledge-sharing abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision to three Automation and Platform Services team staff.
  • Oversee the team's work and be accountable for delivery quality and timeliness.
  • Plan and schedule team resources.
  • Perform hiring and staff onboarding.
  • Support staff professional development and training.
  • Conduct formal annual and ongoing performance reviews and set goals with staff.
  • Motivate staff to meet goals set by strategic initiatives and normal workloads.
  • Ensure employees adhere to institutional policies and take verbal and written action to improve performance when appropriate.
  • Provide input into merit-based salary adjustments.
  • Develop and administer automation and platform services environments hosting mission-critical, high-availability enterprise applications and web hosting.
  • Manage configuration management and workflow.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for system management and software deployment tasks, and provide input on continuous improvement of practices and processes.
  • Consult with developers, application administrators, and system administrators to plan needs.
  • Develop automation for system and application maintenance, configuration, performance monitoring, and security testing.
  • Document processes, procedures, and services.
  • Maintain system monitoring for performance, availability, and scalability.
  • Provide integration services for private and public cloud hosting platforms.
  • Support issues involving hosting, application hosting, and server applications.
  • Develop DevOps, CI/CD, and configuration management processes.
  • Develop and service deployment pipelines in collaboration with development staff, application administration staff, and system administration staff.
  • Follow established incident and problem management practices.
  • Research and technically assess new web application, development operations, and continuous integration technologies for service development, support, and process improvement.
  • Provide morning, evening, and weekend coverage for time-critical events, production issues, and other changes.
  • Oversee staffing, resource planning, performance, professional development, and policy compliance while ensuring high-quality, timely delivery aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Understanding of Drupal CMS development, including internals, themes, and modules.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, VMware virtualization, and system hardware.
  • Understanding of other database systems, including Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Knowledge of system and application security threats and countermeasures.
  • Knowledge of authentication and authorization using LDAP or Active Directory.
  • Familiarity with ITIL/IT Service Management practices.
