About the Job

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Experience using direct-current and radio-frequency circuit simulators is required.
  • At least five years of experience working specifically with radio-frequency or microwave circuits at 2 GHz or more is required.
  • Strong understanding of printed circuit board design for radio-frequency and/or microwave circuits, including manufacturability, is required.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience using network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal analyzers, and oscilloscopes, with the ability to interpret results, is required.
  • Experience with data collection and statistical analysis using common tools such as Excel is required.
  • Strong failure-analysis techniques and problem-solving and troubleshooting skills are required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows is required.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, with high proficiency in Excel, are required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present technical data and report on engineering concepts to team members, are required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret-level clearance at the company's expense.
  • U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.
  • Candidates must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, permanent U.S. residency, or protected-individual classification under 8 USC 1324b(a)(3) because the job requires access to U.S. export-controlled technology, materials, software, or hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the product line manager, sales and marketing personnel, and customers to define product requirements and project scope.
  • Generate and execute a comprehensive plan covering project activities from conception or receipt of order through product release and production support.
  • Contribute to product architecture and design by performing mechanical and electrical design tasks to realize product requirements, typically including radio-frequency and direct-current circuit design and simulation, printed circuit board design, electromagnetic simulation, and stress analysis; mechanical or thermal finite-element analysis and Monte Carlo or other statistical analysis may also be required.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and manufacturing personnel on prototyping, product development, and sustaining-engineering activities, making significant hands-on contributions.
  • Work with procurement, manufacturing process engineers, and test engineers before and after product release to ensure designs are realizable and maximize production yield; statistical analysis is typically required.
  • Compile and present design-review data packages to internal and external customers.
  • Work with other engineers to generate and validate manufacturing tools, including drawings, travelers, bills of materials, schematics, test procedures, acceptance test limits, process specifications, and production aids.
  • Perform root-cause and corrective-action analysis on work in progress or field failures as necessary.
  • Work on other projects or responsibilities as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

  • A Master of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering is desirable.
  • Experience using Advanced Design System (ADS) to design and simulate small-signal, large-signal, and noise performance is desirable.
  • Experience using a 2.5D or 3D electromagnetic finite-element analysis simulator is desirable; HFSS is preferred.
  • Experience programming a personal computer is desirable.
  • Dexterity, visual acuity, and soldering ability to remove and/or install components down to 0402 are desirable.
  • Experience designing printed circuit boards for radio-frequency or microwave applications is desirable; Altium is preferred.
  • Experience performing mechanical finite-element analysis on electrical assemblies is desirable; ANSYS is preferred.
  • Experience performing phase-noise measurements is desirable.
  • Experience designing low-phase-noise voltage-controlled oscillators is desirable.
  • Familiarity with statistical methods such as hypothesis testing, design of experiments, statistical process control, and gage repeatability and reproducibility is desirable.
