Requirements
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • At least six months of experience in a medical-related field and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities
  • Enter charges accurately and promptly to ensure proper records handling and timely payment responses.
  • Initiate private-pay collections after insurance cancellation, denial, or another issue.
  • Obtain referrals and pre-authorizations and verify eligibility and benefits when required.
  • Prepare, review, and transmit claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims within the standard billing-cycle timeframe.
  • Check insurance payments for accuracy and compliance with contract discounts.
  • Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurance.
  • Maintain accurate tables and inform management of rate changes.
  • Follow up with patients and insurance companies on unpaid claims to determine the cause of delays and keep the billing cycle on track.
  • Investigate denied claims and research claim modifications to ensure correct processing and maximum reimbursement.
  • Answer patient, insurance-company, and employee inquiries regarding assigned accounts, billing, and appeals; review records for accuracy and completeness and obtain missing information.
  • Maintain knowledge of reimbursement requirements for assigned payers and general knowledge of other payers.
  • Communicate policy changes and issues to management for communication across the company.
  • Liaise with payer and provider representatives when necessary.
  • Serve as a troubleshooter for accounts-receivable problems and as a backup troubleshooter for the complete system.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
