About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's or advanced degree in aerospace, mechanical, manufacturing, or materials engineering, or engineering physics.
  • At least 5 years of mechanical or fluids design, analysis, and build experience.
  • Demonstrated ownership of at least one component or subsystem from concept through qualification or flight.
  • A track record of shipping hardware, not just designing it.
  • A strong understanding of engineering first principles, specifically thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and solid mechanics.
  • Ability to travel to vendors and other company sites as needed.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and provide occasional weekend support.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR: a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or protected person under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
Responsibilities
  • Lead design and prototyping of new mechanical hardware across a component family or subsystem.
  • Develop manufacturable flow-control devices, including valves, regulators, and solenoids, and mechanisms, including actuators, switches, and pistons; question requirements, simplify designs, and accelerate aerospace component deliveries.
  • Generate and maintain detailed drawings, component specifications, analyses, and risk assessments; perform concept design, technical analysis, and first-unit builds.
  • Drive trade studies and architecture decisions that cross team boundaries.
  • Lead preliminary and critical design reviews as the responsible engineer and own the technical narrative end to end.
  • Set technical direction for qualification campaigns and define qualification strategy.
  • Lead root-cause investigations in development, production, and testing, and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat failures.
  • Set standards for component design and qualification testing, including company design and testing policies, internal standards, and best practices.
  • Mentor junior design engineers, review their drawings, analyses, and design choices, and help resolve blockers.
  • Serve as the technical authority for owned components and work directly with customers, manufacturers, and external review boards to resolve problems.
  • Prototype new components at the in-house research and development lab and remain hands-on through prototype development.
  • Own vendor relationships through new product introduction, including audits, source inspections, and supplier qualification.
  • Work with test engineering to define and execute qualification plans.
  • Work with build engineers to ensure new designs are manufacturable at production facilities and incorporate design-for-manufacturing feedback.
  • Represent the company to customers in technical reviews, audits, and anomaly response.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 7 years of professional aerospace or mechanical engineering experience, ideally with flight hardware.
  • Experience taking components through formal qualification, including vibration, shock, thermal, burst, cycle, and leak testing.
  • Experience with pressurized components such as valves, regulators, tubes, and pipes, and propulsion fluid systems.
  • Hands-on experience with cryogenic and/or high-pressure systems.
  • Strong geometric dimensioning and tolerancing fluency, with at least 5 years applying it to flight hardware.
  • Experience writing or owning interface control documents, component specifications, and qualification plans.
  • Failure investigation experience using structured methods such as 8D, fishbone, and fault-tree analysis.
  • Experience with finite element analysis packages.
  • Experience with Siemens NX or similar computer-aided design software.
  • Experience with test instrumentation and control components, including pressure transducers, thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors, relays, and solenoid valves.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or equivalent aerospace quality systems.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to communicate technical concepts across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Comfort presenting to customers and external review boards.
  • Interpersonal and collaborative skills, enthusiasm for problem-solving, and interest in optimizing aerospace production and design processes.

What believers are saying

  • May 20, 2026: Amca raised $300 million Series B at over $1 billion.
  • The round backed factory acquisitions nationwide and RAPID deployment across its network.
  • Amca's El Segundo prototyping hub and six U.S. factories support faster delivery now.

What critics are saying

  • Amca depends on integrating acquisitions like BC Systems, Cal-Draulics, Electrocube, and Payne Magnetics.
  • Aerospace quality failures or AS9100 gaps would instantly block Boeing and Lockheed orders.
  • Customer concentration and defense-program delays can crush demand and valuation within 2027.

What makes AMCA unique

  • Amca unifies engineering, qualification, and manufacturing through RAPID, cutting timelines 67%.
  • By May 2026, Amca operated seven factories and 123,000 square feet across three states.
