Salesforce sells cloud software that helps businesses manage sales leads, customer service, marketing, and online commerce from shared customer records. Its flagship Sales Cloud tracks accounts and deals, while Service Cloud organizes support cases and Agentforce builds AI assistants that act on company data. Teams access these tools through a browser and connect outside apps and data sources, with Slack for work messages and Tableau for visual analysis. Salesforce earns most of its revenue from software subscriptions and support, with professional services for implementation and training. Marc Benioff co-founded Salesforce in 1999, and its headquarters are in San Francisco, California.

Salesforce's balance sheet has changed sharply as it funds a $25 billion accelerated share repurchase, which was still under way during its fiscal Q2 2027 earnings call in August. Debt made up 38.1% of assets in the quarter, against a typical 14.8% over the prior fourteen years. The company holds $41.7 billion in total debt and $11.4 billion in cash and short-term investments. It spent $35.1 billion on buybacks over the last twelve months, while free cash flow was $15.2 billion. Diluted shares fell to 821 million from 962 million a year earlier. Shares bought so far under the programme cost an average of $176, below the current $229.13 price. The business itself looks steady: operating margin was 22%, and revenue grew 11% in constant currency.
Salesforce stock has gained 10.9% since the day before the company raised its fiscal 2027 profit forecast on August 26, 2026. The S&P 500 returned 1.1% over the same period. Most of the gain came early. The stock rose 22.5% in the two sessions around the release, then fell 9.5%. It trades 1.8% above its 50-day average and 14.4% above its 200-day average. Salesforce raised its fiscal 2027 earnings per share guidance to $10.21 to $10.25, from a midpoint of $7.96. Second-quarter GAAP earnings per share reached $4.29, helped by non-operating gains. Revenue guidance rose only 0.4% at the midpoint, to $46.1 billion to $46.4 billion. Second-quarter sales were $11.35 billion.
Salesforce (NYSE:CRM) has introduced an Agent Allowlist in its Winter '27 CRM release, letting merchants control which AI agents can access their commerce APIs. The release also adds native agent skills, plug-in support, and cloud-based agent connections for AI-assisted customer and shopping journeys. Merchants can track agent-driven shopping behaviour and outcomes inside the CRM. The update supports Salesforce's push to rebuild its applications around AI agents. However, opening more commerce flows to external agents running on Microsoft or Google clouds widens the surface for security incidents, such as those previously seen in Slack.
The startup’s AI technology is designed to explain why business metrics change and identify what to do next, rather than simply display data. Salesforce plans to integrate its technology and team into Tableau as it pushes toward more autonomous analytics.
Forter has become a launch partner for Salesforce's new Storefront Next platform and extended its fraud protection to Salesforce Loyalty Management. The collaboration embeds Forter's trust intelligence across Salesforce commerce offerings, including AI-driven shopping experiences through Shopper Agent and Commerce Cloud Client. The integration helps merchants prevent fraud, chargebacks and account takeovers whilst approving legitimate orders. Built on a global identity network, Forter's system recognises trusted shoppers from their first interaction. The expanded partnership addresses rising loyalty fraud by combining Forter's Account Protection with Salesforce Loyalty Management to block bad actors and policy abuse. Forter was previously named Salesforce's 2027 Partner of the Year for Transform & Scale. The company serves nearly 1 million businesses, including Nordstrom, Instacart and Priceline.
