Bleeding and Clotting Disorders Institute

View

The Bleeding & Clotting Disorders Institute (BCDI) is a non-profit clinic network that provides integrated, family-centered care for people with bleeding and clotting disorders throughout Illinois and beyond. Its care model mixes medical treatment with support services through a team of hematologists, nurses, therapists, social workers, and dietitians, plus on-site lab work, an infusion suite, and an accredited specialty pharmacy, with expanding telemedicine and nine outreach clinics. Unlike many providers, BCDI is Illinois’ only federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center of Excellence outside Chicago and engages in clinical trials and investigator-initiated research at its Dills Family Foundation Center for Research to advance therapies. The goal is to offer accessible, comprehensive, evidence-based care that addresses patients' physical, mental, and emotional needs while advancing treatment through research and community outreach.

What believers are saying

  • Downers Grove clinic should pull suburban referrals and reduce travel friction immediately.
  • Open EMIVWD enrollment strengthens BCDI's research visibility and pharma partnering leverage this year.
  • New physicians, Dr. Melinda Chance and Dr. Joanne McManaman, deepen capacity for 2026 growth.

What critics are saying

  • BCDI relies heavily on Dr. Michael Tarantino; succession risk threatens continuity by 2027.
  • Outreach-clinic expansion raises operating costs faster than donation and reimbursement growth in 2026.
  • Specialized hemophilia referrals and federal funding concentration create an existential reimbursement shock risk.

What makes Bleeding and Clotting Disorders Institute unique

  • BCDI remains Illinois' only federally designated hemophilia center outside Chicago.
  • BCDI opened Downers Grove on May 13, 2026, expanding eleven Illinois outreach clinics.
  • BCDI presented THSNA 2026 research, including EMIVWD emicizumab studies and sports guidance.
