Requirements
  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • Have at least six months of previous experience working with children, such as in camps, child care, tutoring, nannying, or coaching.
  • Hold a current state-approved first-aid certification, or obtain it within 90 days of the start date.
  • Hold a current state-approved community cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification, or obtain it within 90 days of the start date.
  • Have knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, using hands, reaching, and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Complete a background check as a condition of employment.
  • Comply with Federal E-Verify employment verification requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Instruct assigned programs in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
  • Assist in developing programming as needed.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Increase participant awareness of whole-person health.
  • Set up and take down class equipment and report equipment needs to the supervisor.
  • Accurately maintain related records.
  • Convey basic information about YMCA programs and schedules to members and refer members to other YMCA programs or staff as appropriate.
  • Attend required staff meetings and approved trainings.
  • Adhere to abuse prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical ability, and sexual orientation.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
