About the job

Requirements
  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with deep hands-on experience in both embedded systems engineering (C/C++, RTOS, control systems) and software engineering (cloud-native, mobile, UX).
  • A proven track record of scaling an engineering organization from early stage to high growth, including building and leading teams across multiple disciplines.
  • Demonstrated success delivering connected products where hardware and software are tightly integrated, with ownership across architecture, reliability, and lifecycle management.
  • Deep expertise in IoT ecosystems, including over-the-air updates, fleet management, and sensor fusion.
  • Experience establishing modern development practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, release management, and metrics-driven delivery.
  • A portfolio of shipped products where software and hardware interact seamlessly.
  • Strong technical judgment across modern applications and embedded stacks, including React, Node.js, AWS, and C/C++, with the ability to evaluate tradeoffs and evolve architectural decisions as the company scales.
  • Strong executive communication skills, with experience partnering closely with CEO-level leadership and presenting technical strategy to senior stakeholders or boards.
Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical leader of the software organization and lead the technical roadmap for embedded systems, control logic, mobile interfaces, and cloud services.
  • Personally architect, write, review, and debug production software across embedded firmware, cloud, and mobile systems; participate in architecture, design, and code reviews and critical technical decisions; unblock difficult engineering problems; and contribute production-quality code.
  • Develop common software platforms, frameworks, APIs, and services for reuse across product generations, reducing development effort for future programs.
  • Establish best practices for CI/CD, automated testing, code review, and release management, particularly for hardware-software integrations where reliability is critical.
  • Raise the technical bar through architecture, code, and design reviews and technical mentorship of engineering managers and senior individual contributors.
  • Lead the evolution of the codebase architecture and consolidate repositories into a modular, reusable architecture to accelerate future product launches.
  • Lead cross-functional execution, bridging technical constraints and user experience needs.
  • Lead the Software Test Engineering organization responsible for automation frameworks, validation tooling, CI infrastructure, regression testing, and release quality.
  • Identify and remove development lifecycle bottlenecks; invest in tooling, automation, and modern workflows, including AI-assisted development where appropriate, to improve engineering cycle time and release confidence.
  • Own predictable execution, system performance, and post-launch stability across connected products.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing engineering team and foster a culture of ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Work with the CEO and hardware teams on major architectural and build-versus-buy decisions and help define the long-term direction of connected specialty coffee.
