About the Job

Requirements

  • Advanced SQL skills for independent data extraction and transaction interrogation.
  • Knowledge of payment systems architecture, including wallets, card processing, direct debit, settlement, and reconciliation.
  • Basic API and integration literacy.
  • End-to-end transaction lifecycle knowledge, including authorisation, posting, clearing, settlement, and exception handling.
  • Ability to analyse product requirement documents and process flows and translate them into control flowcharts.
  • Mathematical precision in fee calculations, interest computations, and split payment structures.
  • Ability to detect anomalies, outliers, and irregularities in large transaction datasets.
  • Knowledge of risk-based audit methodology, including IIA Standards and the COSO framework applied to financial products.
  • Knowledge of control design logic and evaluation.
  • Root cause analysis skills.
  • Regulatory knowledge including CBN payment system regulations, PCI DSS, NDPR, and Nigerian consumer protection obligations.
  • Stakeholder engagement, professional scepticism, independence, and risk-rated report writing.
  • Experience with SQL platforms including PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MSSQL; Advanced Excel or Google Sheets; and Claude or other AI tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in Product Audit, Systems Audit, Financial Data Analytics, or Payment Operations within a fintech or financial services environment.
  • Hands-on familiarity with payment product architecture, wallet systems, and regulated payment flows in a Nigerian or comparable market context.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a risk-ranked Product Audit Universe covering payment products, features, and integrations.
  • Own the annual Product Audit Plan and dynamically allocate coverage based on risk ratings, product complexity, regulatory sensitivity, and change velocity.
  • Review product requirement documents, business rules, and transaction workflows to identify logic gaps, unmitigated risk paths, and missing exception-handling routines before production or go-live.
  • Analyse product path scenarios, verify Maker-Checker enforcement, and provide formal control design sign-off before material releases go live.
  • Periodically assess live payment products to confirm they continue to operate within approved design parameters.
  • Detect configuration drift, identify divergence from original product requirement documents, and analyse live transaction data for emerging risk patterns.
  • Execute mandatory pre-production Product Audit reviews as an independent control gate for material releases.
  • Confirm reconciliation logic, exception queues, and fallback controls are tested and functional.
  • Escalate critical deficiencies with risk ratings and hold recommendations when a product is not safe to release.
  • Use SQL to interrogate the Fee Engine and verify the precision of commissions, VAT, discounts, and splits.
  • Validate duplicate prevention mechanisms and transaction integrity in complex, multi-step payment sequences; test reversal, refund, and chargeback logic to confirm financial symmetry.
  • Trace fund flows and confirm continuous synchronisation between wallet sub-ledgers and the General Ledger.
  • Assess reconciliation logic for breaks and evaluate authorisation, documentation, and reversibility of manual settlement overrides.
  • Confirm product modifications to fee tables, routing rules, and limit parameters pass through approved change management.
  • Identify changes made outside formal release processes and audit product master data for access control, version tracking, and consistency with approved product terms.
  • Assess controls over vendor-managed product components, evaluate SLA performance against contractual commitments, and identify single-vendor dependency risks in critical payment flows.
  • Evaluate the organisation’s ability to detect unilateral changes in third-party API behaviour, fee logic, or settlement processes.
  • Engage product and engineering teams early in the design cycle to provide informal control advisory while preserving independence.
  • Participate in design reviews and architecture discussions and build a control-by-design culture across product teams.
  • Lead post-incident reviews for product failures and produce structured root cause analysis reports identifying underlying logic failures.
  • Assess corrective actions for adequacy and track findings through closure.
  • Ensure product logic complies with CBN guidelines, PCI DSS, and consumer protection obligations at the design level; evaluate regulatory impacts of new features before release.
  • Prepare risk-rated audit reports for Executive Management and the Audit Committee, leading with findings, financial impact, and required action.
  • Maintain a Product Risk Register, deliver quarterly control maturity updates, and inform governance bodies of product failures visible at the design or portfolio review stage.

Desired Qualifications

  • CISA, CIA, or CFE certification is preferred.
  • ACA or ACCA is acceptable when combined with strong technical product experience and data analytics.
