Requirements
  • The candidate must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • The candidate must have three years of experience in the clinical area, including at least one year in the area of specialty, or a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing with two years of experience in the clinical area, including at least one year in the area of specialty.
  • The candidate must hold a current Registered Nurse license in Georgia or a Nurse Compact, enhanced Nurse Compact, or multistate license.
  • The candidate must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
  • The candidate must have visual color acuity depending on the role in the specific unit.
Responsibilities
  • Perform the duties and responsibilities of a Staff Registered Nurse for a specific patient population when needed.
  • Make daily staff work assignments based on patient acuity and staff clinical competence, and recommend staffing requirements for the next shift.
  • Make patient rounds, evaluate nursing and unit activities, set patient-care priorities, and recommend operational changes to enhance unit services.
  • Supervise nursing and patient-care staff, including orienting, training, counseling, and evaluating them.
  • Interpret and communicate hospital and division nursing philosophy, policies, procedures, and established standards of care and practice.
  • Assist in developing department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and equipment for unit operations and make recommendations to control the operational budget.
  • Participate in unit quality-improvement activities.
  • Coordinate admissions and discharges.
  • Serve as a communication liaison between patients, families, staff, and physicians, and report critical consequences of actions taken to the Manager or Director.
  • Comply with hospital and professional license, certification, in-service, training, committee, and conference requirements appropriate to the position.
  • Maintain familiarity with nursing-care issues related to medical problems, surgical procedures, and diagnostic studies, as well as technical training in equipment used in the area.
  • Practice proper safety techniques according to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Immediately report mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee, visitor, or patient injury-accidents to the Manager or Director.
Desired Qualifications
  • An additional life support credential such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, or Neonatal Resuscitation Program, or another clinical specialty certification for the specific unit.
