Requirements
  • For DSP 2 positions, at least 1-2 years work experience in the intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) field.
  • Tuberculosis test is mandatory for most positions.
  • Strong writing skills are required; an ability to analyze, interpret, and summarize data through detailed progress notes.
Responsibilities
  • To provide direct care services as needed, including counseling, training in activities of daily living, assistance with personal care, medical, dietary, social, sexual, recreational, financial, habilitative and other needs within the program.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and wellness of the people we support.
  • Actively carrying out progressive teaching style designed to measure accuracy, fluency, and competency on established individualized goals using foundational teaching skills (EMOE, Task analysis, essential skills, supports and modifications).
  • Maintaining a conducive learning environment through methods such as Personal Outcome Measures, Person Centered Thinking, Informed Decision Making.
  • Completing thorough and timely monthly documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and meeting billing deadlines.
  • Provides timely services that are in accordance with everyone's set schedule to ensure consistency and respect of each person.
  • Responsible for implementation of day program plans, opportunities for self-determination, independent activity, increased productivity and greater community inclusion.
  • Collects, records, and reports on data for all written program plans (e.g., behavior plans, treatment plans, staff action plans) and writes case notes; provides information on incidents as required.
  • Ensures high level of communication through articulate written and verbal communication to all stakeholders.
  • Completing mandatory trainings (AMAP, CPR/First Aid, SCIP-R, Defensive Driving) and applying learned skills.
  • Ensuring appropriate supervision of the people we support and the program; knowing when to contact an administrator for support.
  • Escorting people on recreational activities, volunteer sites, and community events; assisting with purchases and safeguarding personal allowance funds as needed.
  • Taking on additional tasks outside of basic direct support professional work as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid New York State Driver's License is a plus.
  • Work or life experience in the intellectual and developmental disabilities field is a plus.
