Clinical Authorization Coordinator

Ready to make a real difference?The Clinical Authorization Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing prior authorization processes to support accurate billing and reimbursement for behavioral health and medical services. This role works closely with clinical teams, billing staff, and insurance providers to ensure prior authorizations are submitted, approved, and renewed in a timely manner. The Clinical Authorization Coordinator will primarily support prior authorizations for therapists while providing backup support for medical prior authorizations.

Remarkable ways you will be making a difference:

•  Attends mandatory staff meeting and other meetings as assigned
• Establishes and maintains effective communication with pay sources, including Medicaid, Managed Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurers
• Tracks behavioral health patient admissions and discharges to support accurate authorization and billing processes
• Reviews documentation to ensure required information is available for prior authorization submissions
• Collaborates with Accounting and billing staff to resolve authorization-related billing issues
• Coordinates the submission, tracking, and approval of prior authorizations for behavioral health services.
• Monitors authorization approval periods and renewal dates to prevent interruptions in services and billing
• Communicates with clinical teams regarding authorization requirements, approval status, and necessary documentation
• Provides backup support for medical prior authorizations as needed

What you need to be considered:

• High school diploma or GED required
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare billing, insurance verification, or prior authorization processes required
• Experience working with Medicaid, Managed Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance companies preferred
• Experience supporting prior authorizations for behavioral health or medical services preferred
• Experience reviewing documentation for billing accuracy and insurance authorization requirements preferred
• Trauma informed care and de-escalation training
• Ability to pass and maintain CPR Certification
• Minimum age of 18 per licensure requirements
• Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving)
• Be clear of any felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal convictions
• Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and physical
• Favorably meet and maintain Damar’s background screening

Essential Job Functions

The essential functions of this position require the physical ability and mobility needed to perform the job. This includes the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs.; operate office equipment, including a computer keyboard; travel to other locations using private or commercial transportation; and communicate effectively to exchange information.

The position also requires the ability to recognize and respond appropriately to client behaviors, staff instructions, safety concerns, and emergencies in an environment where individuals may display aggressive, self-injurious, sexually maladaptive, elopement, or other unpredictable behaviors.

Regular and acceptable attendance, excluding approved absences and periods of leave, is also an essential function of the position.
