About the Job

Requirements

  • The SkillBridge participant must have served at least 180 days on active duty, be within 12 months of separation or retirement, receive an honorable discharge, have taken service TAPS/TGPS, have attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months, and obtain written authorization and approval from the Unit Commander before starting the SkillBridge program.
  • For the Principal level, have a bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience, a master's degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with 1 year of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • For the Senior Principal level, have a bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience, a master's degree with 6 years of experience, or a PhD with 4 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Hold a current, active U.S. Government Secret Clearance and be able to obtain and maintain Special Access Program access.
  • Have experience in modeling, simulation, experimentation, and analysis for operations, including analytical modeling tools such as MATLAB, STK, or similar environments.
  • Have experience with combat simulation environments such as AFSIM and/or Brawler.
  • Have experience with Python, C/C++, scripting in Linux/Windows environments, statistics, design of experiments, and high-performance computing.
  • Have experience with Department of Defense testing and acquisition principles, including hands-on experience in developmental testing and planning and executing weapon tests.

Responsibilities

  • Apply modeling, simulation, and analysis techniques with a focus on Mission Engineering to accelerate delivery of customer capabilities through mission studies, system-of-systems trades, or performance analysis using credible modeling, simulation, experimentation, and analysis processes.
  • Perform analysis of alternatives and mission architecture trades across offensive and defensive orders of battle, formations, and equipment, including laydowns, platforms, sensor, effector, and weapon loadouts, communications, command and control segments among combatants, and the impacts of tactics and strategies.
  • Use Modeling, Simulation, Experimentation, and Analysis frameworks to evaluate Concepts of Employment, Concepts of Operations, and Design Reference Missions to affect system design and optimization.
  • Assess capabilities by linking system requirements to mission threads, proving operative interfaces and their connections that enable mission execution, planning verification and validation of system elements performing missions, and performing system integration functions during development.
  • Plan demonstration and delivery of mission effects, data, or capabilities during operations, and provide long-term sustainment and mission augmentation support over system lifecycles.
  • Develop large-scale data analytics, probabilities, and statistics, including applying design-of-experiment techniques to evaluate system and mission performance.
  • Innovate to solve problems and identify improvements across Modeling, Simulation, Experimentation, and Analysis products.
  • Perform operational analysis and mission effectiveness analysis activities.
  • Develop new or integrate existing system simulation frameworks, performance models and algorithms, threat models, and command and control models.
  • Model operational environments, perform trade studies using computer simulation, and recommend alternative architectures.
  • Develop, integrate, and use advanced graphical user interfaces and visualization tools.
  • Work on site with the host company during the SkillBridge program, following a schedule equivalent to 40 hours per week.

Desired Qualifications

  • Have advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical fields.
  • Have an active Top Secret Clearance or higher.
  • Have experience with JMP, R, or other domain-specific environments supporting data exploration, visualization, and statistical analysis.
  • Have domain experience in simulations of radio frequency, electro-optical/infrared, communications, or related systems.
  • Understand Systems Engineering and Integration and Test processes.
  • Have experience with Agile and/or Scaled Agile Framework methodologies.

About the Company

Northrop Grumman

Builds stealth bombers, missiles, and satellites

Northrop Grumman builds military aircraft, missiles, rocket motors, satellites, and electronic systems, mostly for the American military and allied governments. It designed the B-2 stealth bomber and built NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, the largest telescope ever sent to space. The company works through four businesses: aircraft, missiles and ammunition, radar and communications systems, and space hardware such as satellites and solid rocket boosters. Most revenue comes from long-term government contracts, many of them classified. Its roots go back to Northrop Aircraft, founded in 1939, and it took its name after buying Grumman in 1994 and is based in Falls Church, Virginia.
