About the job

Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience in Developer Experience, Build/Release Engineering, Platform Engineering, or CI/CD Infrastructure on AWS Cloud.
  • Hands-on experience with GitHub or an equivalent CI platform, self-hosted runners, and workflow orchestration patterns.
  • A proven track record of reducing CI time and improving pipeline reliability at scale.
  • Deep understanding of caching across modern build systems, package ecosystems, and containerized CI; Turborepo or Bazel experience is preferred.
  • Experience optimizing pull request workflows, including branch protections, required checks, merge strategies, and developer feedback loops.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills in Python, Bash, or a similar language, and familiarity with infrastructure as code; Terraform is preferred.
  • Comfort working across web, backend, C++, and embedded stacks while balancing shared platform needs.
  • Strong debugging skills for non-deterministic CI issues such as flaky tests, cache misses, and environment drift.
Responsibilities
  • Design and implement caching strategies across build systems and package managers, including Turborepo and Bazel remote/local caching, dependency caching, and compiler cache layers.
  • Own Bazel build performance and reliability in CI, including remote cache strategy, cache hit-rate tuning, and build graph optimization.
  • Own the end-to-end pull request landing experience, including signal quality, required-check ergonomics, merge confidence, and time-to-green optimization.
  • Own the workplace provisioning workflow.
  • Improve CI runner infrastructure, including sizing, placement, AMI/toolchain consistency, and utilization, to reduce queue times and job duration variability.
  • Build CI observability and reporting for pipeline latency and cost/performance trends.
  • Partner with teams to identify cost-efficient opportunities to streamline the developer experience.
  • Improve pre-commit and lint pipelines for speed and reliability without lowering enforcement quality.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with monorepo migrations and CI redesign during repository restructuring.
  • Familiarity with workload right-sizing across runner classes and cost/performance tuning.
  • Experience with Turborepo task graph optimization and remote caching.
  • Experience with Bazel remote execution/caching architecture in multi-language repositories.
  • Experience building CI health dashboards and SLOs for engineering productivity.
  • Knowledge of security and compliance checks in CI, such as secret scanning and policy gates, and performance tuning those checks.
  • Experience with practical patterns for AI-assisted development in CI/CD and developer experience workflows, such as agent.md definition and infrastructure, build/debug assistance, and pull request summarization.

About the company

Lab37 builds robotics and software for automated food assembly in restaurants and food production. Its flagship system, Bowl Builder, runs the makeline from bowl dispensing and ingredient portioning through lid application, labeling, and bagging. It uses thermally controlled dispensers, integrates with point-of-sale and delivery systems, and supports configurable recipes and customer modifications. The modular setup is designed for deployment across multiple locations and a range of bowl-based meals and ingredients. Compared with others, Lab37 focuses on end-to-end kitchen infrastructure that links robotics with software, POS and delivery, enabling higher throughput, consistency, and easier scale across sites. Its goal is to help operators address labour shortages, reduce order errors, and improve margins by automating the meal assembly process.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Lab37 says Bowl Builder is already operating across U.S. restaurants in 2026.
  • The company’s site claims 300 bowls hourly and 40%+ labor reduction.
  • Atoms’ $1.7 billion funding in 2026 gives Lab37 capital for manufacturing and sales.

What critics are saying

  • CloudKitchens cut staff and closed sites in 2023, 2024, and Oakland in 2025.
  • Lab37 still discloses no system count, customer list, or audited unit economics.
  • If chain adoption stalls, Lab37 remains a demo product inside Kalanick’s unproven Atoms stack.

What makes Lab37 Robotics unique

  • Lab37’s Bowl Builder automates bowl assembly end-to-end, from dispense to bag close.
  • The system integrates POS and delivery orders, matching restaurant workflows rather than standalone robotics.
  • Atoms backs Lab37 with CloudKitchens facilities, creating real-world testing and deployment infrastructure.
