Amazon buys $146M LA campus, Olympics organizer leases flex space at former Forever 21 HQ

Amazon has purchased two buildings totalling approximately 500,000 square feet at a former Forever 21 campus in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles, for $146.2 million. The e-commerce giant acquired Buildings 2 and 3 at the 39-acre site on Mission Road, though its plans for the space remain unclear. The acquisition supports Amazon's expansion of same-day delivery operations, with plans to grow its network to over 1,000 locations by 2031. The campus is within 15 miles of more than 5.7 million people. Meanwhile, LA28, the 2028 Summer Olympics organizer, has leased the site's third building, a 667,000-square-foot flex office space, for 28 months. Sellers Newland Capital Group and Related Fund Management acquired the entire property last summer for $120 million.

Mellody Hobson leaves LA28 board for Lucas Museum launch.

Mellody Hobson leaves LA28 board for Lucas Museum launch. entertainment Key takeaways. * The resignation comes just days before the high-profile public opening of the **Lucas Museum of Narrative Art** on Tuesday, preceded by an exclusive gala on Friday. * Hobson serves as co-founder of the museum alongside her husband, legendary filmmaker **George Lucas**. TrendPulse analysis. Industry context. Leadership shifts among high-profile executives juggling multiple large-scale ventures highlight the intense operational pressure facing cultural and civic projects in major metropolitan markets. For entertainment and business leaders like Hobson, balancing high-stakes philanthropic, artistic, and corporate board commitments requires rigorous resource allocation. As Los Angeles prepares for the global spotlight of the 2028 Olympic Games, the **LA28** organizing committee must continuously recalibrate its roster of prominent business leaders to maintain momentum. Simultaneously, the launch of the **Lucas Museum of Narrative Art** marks a significant milestone for the entertainment and art sectors. The museum aims to bridge the gap between popular art, narrative illustration, and fine art - a vision championed by George Lucas for decades. The project's realization injects new energy into the regional creative economy, yet it also demands undivided attention from its leadership team to navigate the complex logistics of a major museum launch. Why this matters. For investors, entertainment executives, and civic planners, high-profile departures from major organizing committees signal a broader trend of workload consolidation as major deadlines approach. With LA28 facing critical infrastructure, sponsorship, and logistical milestones over the next two years, the committee must ensure its board remains fully engaged without competing against massive parallel projects. Furthermore, the successful opening of the Lucas Museum serves as a bellwether for private-public cultural investments in major media hubs. Stakeholders should monitor how leadership teams transition from developmental phases to operational execution, as resource bottlenecks frequently impact broader industry partnerships and community relations. The bottom line. Mellody Hobson's departure from the LA28 board underscores the immense operational demands of launching the Lucas Museum, reminding executives that managing simultaneous marquee projects requires strict prioritization. LA can reap $20B-$40B from 2028 Olympics — if it learns from 1984 success

Los Angeles could generate between $20-$40 billion in economic output and create over 200,000 jobs from the 2028 Summer Olympics, according to an LA County Economic Development Corporation analysis. The study, commissioned by LA28, projects the Games will draw more than 1 million visitors, generating over $1 billion in spending. The 2028 Games carry a $7.15 billion budget, with an additional $8 billion available for venue and infrastructure updates. The city's 1984 Olympics generated a $230 million profit, funding youth sports programmes and new venues that continue today. However, recent host cities have struggled financially. Paris 2024 exceeded its budget by 115%, whilst Rio 2016 went 350% over budget and London 2012 spent 76% more than planned. Success depends on Los Angeles learning from both its 1984 achievement and recent host city failures.

LA28 ticket registrations surge to over 12 million with two years to go.

LA28 ticket registrations surge to over 12 million with two years to go. Ticket registration for the Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games has climbed to 12 million, up from five million in February, according to organisers. LA28 announced the figure to coincide with the launch of the LA28 Visa presale, which offers selected qualifying Visa cardholders early access to Drop 2 of Olympics tickets across all sports. Fans from more than 200 countries and all 50 states have now registered for the chance to purchase tickets. During the first drop, some four million tickets were sold - 75% of which were claimed by LA and Oklahoma City locals. Organisers also said that 95% of tickets available in Drop 1 were priced at $100 (£75/€87) or less, with half a million costing $28. The LA28 Visa Presale runs until tomorrow (July 31) and purchases must be completed with a Visa card. Drop 2 will take place between August 10-20, and is powered by AXS and Eventim. Fans will be randomly selected for a time slot and will be notified via email between August 6-7. Time slots will open for 48 hours. Guests may purchase up to 12 total Olympic event tickets, and up to 12 additional football tournament tickets. A four-ticket-per-ceremony limit will count towards the general 12-ticket maximum. Next year, LA28 will launch a multi-platform verified ticket resale network and tickets for the Paralympic Games will go on sale. The first recipients of LA28's Community Ticket Programme were named this week, with 10 local organisations reaching a combined 1,000 free tickets to Olympic swimming and flag football. The tickets were made possible by an inaugural $5m donation from the NFL's Los Angeles Rams.
