About the Job

Requirements

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience with strong specialization in power electronics and control systems is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing and deploying digital control for power converters in commercial or industrial applications is required.
  • Demonstrated ownership of control architecture or system-level dynamic performance in complex power conversion systems, such as multi-stage, high-power, grid-connected, or modular platforms, is required.
  • Strong expertise in advanced converter control, including resonant, multilevel, or other high-performance topologies across isolated and non-isolated systems, is required.
  • Command of control theory, including multi-loop stability analysis, loop interaction mitigation, nonlinear system behavior, and dynamic modeling, is required.
  • Experience implementing and guiding high-performance real-time digital control on embedded platforms such as DSP, MCU, or SoC is required.
  • Proficiency in embedded C and ability to review and influence real-time control implementation decisions are required.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience debugging high-power systems and leading system-level validation and performance closure is required.
  • Ability to independently resolve complex cross-domain technical challenges and drive cross-functional trade-off decisions is required.

Responsibilities

  • Own control architecture for advanced power conversion systems across AC-DC and DC-DC platforms.
  • Own system-level dynamic performance, including stability, bandwidth, transient response, robustness, and efficiency, from concept through production.
  • Drive control strategy across interacting power stages and ensure stable operation under all operating conditions.
  • Define digital control execution requirements and ensure real-time implementation meets system performance targets.
  • Lead system-level stability analysis and performance closure under aggressive development timelines.
  • Establish validation methodology and acceptance criteria, including frequency response, transient testing, and fault-handling robustness.
  • Lead complex root-cause investigations across hardware, firmware, sensing, and protection domains.
  • Drive control-related risk assessment using DFMEA and mitigation planning across development programs.
  • Ensure control solutions scale across product variants and future platforms.
  • Influence system-level trade-offs across topology, sensing, control strategy, performance, cost, and power density.
  • Elevate control engineering standards through rigorous design reviews, modeling discipline, and mentorship.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with solid-state transformer architectures or tightly integrated multi-stage AC-DC/DC-DC systems is strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to medium-voltage power electronics systems.
  • Experience with multilevel or modular converter architectures.
  • Experience with bidirectional power flow control.
  • Experience supporting products from research and development through production release.
  • Experience contributing to patents or novel control techniques.

About the Company

Amperesand

Modular solid-state transformers for grid power

Amperesand develops modular solid-state transformers (SSTs) for grid infrastructure using silicon carbide (SiC) devices and proprietary high-frequency transformers. The SSTs are digitally controlled and bidirectional, offered in 2, 4, and 6 MW modules that can be combined to meet larger needs, replacing traditional transformers, switchgear, and UPS in a single AI-driven system. It differentiates itself through the combination of SiC SSTs, proprietary high-frequency transformers, digital power management, and leadership from NTU R&D spun out with Temasek’s Xora Innovation, plus an experienced team from ABB, GE, Siemens, and Vestas. The goal is to speed up the energy transition by delivering scalable, compact SST systems for EV charging networks, microgrids, data centers, and industrial power, with first deliveries planned for 2025 in the US and Singapore.
