About the job

Requirements
  • Proven track record of owning a high-volume purchasing portfolio end-to-end in procure-to-pay and intake platforms.
  • Solid working knowledge of accrual accounting as it applies to purchasing, including accruals and reversals, service period and cutoff, prepaid versus expense, and general ledger and cost center coding; able to explain how a purchase order becomes an entry in the general ledger.
  • Experience supporting outsourced or managed service vendors at scale, where scope and volume change month to month and contracts, purchase orders, and invoices must remain aligned.
  • Working knowledge of how contract review, security and privacy review, and financial controls fit together in a purchase, and judgment to know when to move a request forward and when to slow it down.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a high volume of purchase requests, work orders, and change orders each month across research teams and programs while maintaining speed and accuracy.
  • Serve as the primary procurement partner for research teams and special programs, guiding requesters from initial request to signed agreement and issued purchase order.
  • Review every purchase request in the portfolio for the correct vendor record and contracting entity, complete commercial documents, correct spend categorization and service dates, and required approvals.
  • Determine what each request requires before it can move, including a statement of work, order form, amendment, security or privacy review, or third-party risk assessment, and route it to the appropriate reviewers.
  • Launch and track contract review with Legal, keep it moving, and confirm the executed agreement supports the purchase order before issuance.
  • Structure purchase orders to match vendor billing terms and Accounting's reporting needs, including the correct general ledger account, cost center, and service period on every line; manage change orders, renewals, and closures throughout each agreement's life.
  • Act as the dedicated operations partner for the research services vendor portfolio, handling master agreements, frequent work orders, and scope changes while maintaining speed and documentation discipline.
  • Handle hardware, equipment, and lab purchasing, including multiline quotes, lead times, shipping and receiving, and asset handoffs.
  • Code every purchase order correctly at creation, including general ledger account, spend category, cost center, and service period, and understand the financial treatment of each choice, including expense versus prepaid and capitalized equipment versus operating spend.
  • Work with Accounting on services spanning periods, partially delivered milestones, per-unit work billed in arrears, credits and true-ups, and work orders amended mid-month.
  • Own the open purchase order book by recording receipts against actual delivery, conducting periodic reviews, cleaning up stale lines, correcting coding, and closing purchase orders on time so purchase orders, receipts, and invoices agree.
  • Serve as the first-line reviewer for month-end accruals on the portfolio, gathering variable-spend estimates from vendors and budget owners and confirming or correcting proposed amounts so Accounting can close on time.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice holds, purchase order mismatches, and receiving questions so vendors are paid on time and spending is recorded correctly.
  • Support audit and reporting requests related to the portfolio, including commitment schedules and control evidence, with reliable data.
  • Be the first procurement contact when a new research program or initiative starts; scope its purchasing needs and frequency, agree on an appropriately sized process with Legal, Security, and Finance, and establish it before volume arrives.
  • Run regular pipeline check-ins with the highest-velocity teams so upcoming purchases are visible early and urgent needs are anticipated.
  • Translate procurement, legal, security, and finance requirements into plain language for researchers and engineers, and communicate their operating needs back to those teams so controls fit the work.
  • Be visible and responsive in team Slack channels and office hours, answer routine purchasing questions quickly, and escalate blockers with context.
  • Apply purchasing policy consistently and explain approval thresholds, signature authority, and when exceptions are available.
  • Maintain playbooks, intake guidance, and standard operating procedures for the portfolio so processes are repeatable and not dependent on one person's knowledge.
  • Identify and fix manual steps, repeated questions, and process failure points, including opportunities to use Claude and AI workflow automation to reduce work for requesters and the team.
Desired Qualifications
  • 5–7+ years of procurement operations, purchasing, or vendor operations experience, including support for a research, engineering, hardware, or outsourced services organization.
  • Experience as the embedded procurement partner for hyper-scaling data operations, machine learning, reinforcement learning, and lab environments.
  • Experience at a hypergrowth technology company scaling procurement operations for outsourced or vendor-delivered work.
  • Background in accounting, accounts payable, or month-end close, including three-way match experience.
  • Experience sourcing human data, data labeling, annotation, or evaluation vendors, or comparable business process outsourcing and outsourced operations, with a perspective on the market's direction.
  • Direct experience with Zip, Workday Financials, and Ironclad.
  • Prior ownership of month-end accrual review or open purchase order reconciliation for a large, variable-spend portfolio.
  • Experience designing tiered intake or approval frameworks that accelerate low-risk purchases without weakening controls.

About the company

Anthropic builds the Claude family of AI models and sells them to businesses, software developers, and consumers, with research on making AI safe and understandable at the center of its work. In 2024 it introduced the Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI assistants to outside apps and data that OpenAI and Google adopted the next year. People use the Claude app to write and analyze files, programmers hand coding tasks to Claude Code, and companies build Claude into their own products through its API. Anthropic earns money from subscriptions, business plans, and usage-based API fees. Siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei founded Anthropic in 2021 with other former OpenAI employees, and it is based in San Francisco.

What believers are saying

  • Sales are multiplying: Anthropic's yearly revenue pace topped $65 billion in July 2026, over sevenfold since December 2025.
  • IPO plans advanced: October 2026 reports describe investor meetings and a mid-November listing target; staff shares face lockups.
  • Lower office minimum: 627 of 646 Anthropic job posts in October 2026 require at least 25% office time.

What critics are saying

  • Job security rides on growth: Anthropic's IPO prospectus lists $518 billion in cloud and computing bills due in coming years.
  • Defense work stays off-limits: in September 2026, appeals judges voted 2-1 to let the Pentagon keep blacklisting Anthropic.
  • Growth is priced in: Anthropic's valuation reached $965 billion in May 2026, up from $380 billion in February.

What makes Anthropic unique

  • Investors don't control its board alone: Anthropic's independent Long-Term Benefit Trust elects a growing number of directors.
  • It isn't tied to one chipmaker: Claude runs on Nvidia GPUs plus custom AI chips designed by Google and Amazon.
  • It holds back its riskiest model: Claude Mythos 5.1, launched September 2026, goes only to vetted cyberdefenders and life scientists.

Blackstone eyes AI financing boom, with 7% of its $1.4T assets already exposed

Blackstone sees growing opportunities to finance artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, from chips and computing equipment to power generation and data centres. "The needs of capital here are so enormous. It's unprecedented in our lifetimes," President Jon Gray said on the firm's third-quarter earnings call. The firm is reportedly committing $9 billion to a junior-debt tranche in an $18 billion financing package for Anthropic's AI chips and computing infrastructure, part of a broader $60 billion arrangement. In June, its Credit & Insurance business joined a $35 billion financing launched by Apollo and Broadcom for Anthropic. Blackstone is also weighing dedicated investment vehicles alongside broader funds. About 7% of its $1.4 trillion in assets under management is exposed to AI infrastructure. Gray said the firm focuses on physical infrastructure and long-term contracted assets to manage risks such as technological obsolescence.

Cube joins Claude's connector directory, bringing live, permissioned FP&A data to finance teams

Cube, an agentic financial planning and analysis (FP&A) platform, has partnered with Anthropic to make its financial model available inside Claude. Finance teams can now add Cube through Claude's connector directory. The connector gives Claude the chart of accounts, business logic, and enterprise permissions behind a company's numbers. Each user sees only the data they are authorised to access, and figures can be traced to the source transaction. Users sign in through a secure OAuth flow, with no API keys to manage. They can then ask questions in plain English, such as comparing actuals with forecast, or set up new scenarios. "Data tells AI what the numbers are. Financial context tells AI what the numbers mean," said Christina Ross, founder and chief executive officer of Cube. The Cube MCP Server is available now.

Qlik's MCP server joins Anthropic's Claude Directory, bringing governed data to Claude

Qlik has made its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server available through Anthropic's Claude Directory. Claude users can now connect governed Qlik data, analytical logic, and selected analytics workflows more easily. The server gives Claude access to data lineage, trust signals, and business metrics from Qlik Cloud. Users can search apps and datasets, ask questions in natural language, and create dashboards with prompts. Teams no longer need to rebuild business logic elsewhere. Access runs on OAuth-based authentication and existing Qlik Cloud permissions, so enterprise controls stay in place. "Customers adopting Claude want more than an LLM hooked to raw records," said Josh Good, vice president of corporate strategy at Qlik. The company announced the news on October 22, 2026.

Anthropic previews Claude Duet, a proactive AI agent rivalling Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots

Anthropic on Wednesday announced a preview of Claude Duet, an AI agent for small businesses and professionals. It can send daily briefs, keep tabs on connected apps, and carry out tasks such as building dashboards, scheduling meetings, and creating financial forecasts. The launch follows Meta's Muse, which topped Apple's App Store after its launch last month, and OpenAI's Dots. Meta chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg said more than 10 million people in the US and Canada have set up Muse agents. Anthropic said Duet is still early and "might misread a thread or miscalibrate what's urgent." Personal errands, such as booking tickets, are not "quite as strong." A waitlist is open. Pro and Max subscribers can use the preview through a standalone app or the Claude website.
