- A high school diploma, GED, or post-secondary education is required.
- The role requires the ability to recognize surgical instruments and surgical instrument trays typically assembled in the applicable area.
- Visual color acuity is required depending on the role and specific unit.
- Disinfect surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.

- Central Service Technician Certification is preferred.
- Inpatient sterile processing CRCST or CSPDT certification is preferred.
- Outpatient sterile processing CRCST, CSPDT, or CASSPT certification is preferred.
- For GI Labs, CFER certification is acceptable.
- For Surgical Services, acceptance into the Northside SPD Internship is preferred.
- For Surgical Services, graduation from an accredited sterile processing program with less than 12 months of experience is preferred.
- For Surgical Services, graduation from an accredited surgical technology program with less than 12 months of experience is preferred.
