After torching a Rimowa, John Summit becomes Away's chief Destruction Officer.

After torching a Rimowa, John Summit becomes Away's chief Destruction Officer. Away answers the DJ's viral post with a partnership that puts its aluminum luggage through a trial by fire. 4 hours ago John Summit is lighting another suitcase on fire, but this time it's not a Rimowa. Rival luggage brand Away has named the DJ and producer its "Chief Destruction Officer," following a viral Instagram stunt earlier this year in which he set his Rimowa suitcase ablaze. The story goes that after his sixth Rimowa broke on tour, Summit lit the suitcase on fire in a parking lot and posted the video with the caption "end of an era." He set the footage of the suitcase, which he named "Samantha," to Justin Bieber's "Sorry." It may have been the end of Summit's Rimowa era, but it's the beginning of a new one: an exclusive partnership with Away. Recommended videos

Away CEO Jessica Schinazi steers luggage brand into second decade with wholesale expansion

Away, the travel brand known for its luggage, is entering its second decade under CEO Jessica Schinazi, who joined as president in 2024 before being appointed CEO. The company is expanding beyond its direct-to-consumer roots through wholesale partnerships, new product lines, and refurbished offerings. Schinazi, who bought her first Away carry-on in 2017, brings experience from Richemont, Amazon, LVMH, and Dyson. Away reports double-digit product revenue growth year over year, with EBITDA growing faster. The company sold nearly two pieces of luggage per minute across fiscal 2025. The brand's wholesale business grew 99% year over year on a year-to-date basis as of July. Away recently launched its Series 3 luggage and Signature Bag collection, featuring a campaign with Colman Domingo. Founded by Jen Rubio and Steph Korey in 2016, Away originally disrupted the travel industry with design-focused, direct-to-consumer luggage.

Colman Domingo stars in Away's new campaign for Series 3 and Signature bags.

Colman Domingo stars in Away's new campaign for Series 3 and Signature bags. September 29, 2026 A fashion and pop culture writer who watches a lot... Away is entering a new chapter with the launch of its latest luggage and travel accessories, and Colman Domingo is leading the way. The award-winning actor fronts the brand's new "1 of 1" campaign, which arrives alongside the debut of Away Series 3 and the new Signature Bag collection. Together, the launches mark a significant expansion of the travel brand's design language. The campaign puts Away's approach to craftsmanship and individuality at the center of the story, while the new collections reflect how travel has become increasingly connected to everyday life. From the suitcase that follows you through an airport to the bag that moves from the office to a weekend trip, Away is designing for more than the flight itself. Colman Domingo becomes the face of "1 of 1" For its latest campaign, Away chose Colman Domingo to represent the individuality and experience behind its next chapter. The actor, playwright, director, and producer has built a career across film, television, theater, and fashion, making his perspective on craftsmanship particularly relevant to the campaign. Titled "1 of 1," the campaign takes a cinematic approach to originality. Rather than presenting travel as a polished fantasy, Away uses Domingo to explore the personal perspective that comes from years of experience. Jessica Schinazi, Away's CEO, said the actor embodies the confidence, curiosity, and substance the brand wanted to capture. Domingo also brings a practical connection to the products. He says he travels with a carry-on regardless of how long a trip lasts, making durability and thoughtful functionality important considerations. For him, the appeal of Away comes down to the same attention to detail he applies to his own work. Away Series 3 gives its luggage a new direction. The Away Series 3 represents the brand's most substantial evolution of its suitcase lineup yet. Developed through customer feedback, data, and years of experience in the travel category, the collection focuses on three areas: protection, motion, and capacity. The updates are found in the details travelers interact with throughout a trip. WhisperGlide 360-degree wheels are designed to create a smoother and quieter roll, while StopLock brakes help prevent a suitcase from moving once it has been set down. The Infinite Height Trolley can stop at any height, giving travelers more control over how they handle their luggage. Away has also added Handsfree Hideaway Hooks that retract into the trolley poles, creating a discreet spot for an extra item such as a jacket, handbag, or duty-free bag. The brand's CompressMore Packing System has been upgraded as well, while a dedicated pocket provides space for Bluetooth trackers. The Signature Bag collection extends Away beyond travel days. While Away Series 3 focuses on luggage, the Away Signature Bag collection takes the brand into the spaces between trips. The new range is designed around the increasingly fluid relationship between travel, commuting, work, and leisure. The collection includes the Signature Companion Bag, Signature Tote, Signature Weekender, Signature Triple-Zip Duffle, and Signature Slim Commuter Backpack. Each style combines structured silhouettes with softer, refined materials, tonal trims, and polished hardware, giving the bags a more elevated appearance that works beyond the airport. Functionality remains central to the collection. Expanded quick-grab pockets, high-contrast interiors, detachable straps, and updated tag and charm placements make the bags easier to organize while giving travelers opportunities to personalize them. The Away Signature Bag collection is available in Jet Black, Navy Blue, Coast Blue, Olive Green, Dune Taupe, and Chocolate Brown. Prices range from $208 to $278. A new color story for Away. The Away Series 3 arrives in the brand's established shades of Jet Black, Navy Blue, Coast Blue, Olive Green, Cherry Red, Blush Pink, and Salt White, alongside new additions Electric Iris and Chocolate Brown. Chartreuse Spark also joins the lineup as the seasonal holiday color. The collection spans Carry-On 3, Bigger Carry-On 3, Medium 3, Large 3, and Trunk 3, with Flex versions available for the Carry-On, Bigger Carry-On, Medium, and Large styles. Prices range from $328 to $498. The new luggage and Away Signature Bag collection are available starting today, September 29 through Away's website and its retail locations across the U.S., U.K., and Canada. Shop Away Series 3 collection Away brings the campaign to New York. The "1 of 1" campaign will continue beyond its film and digital rollout with The Travelers Salon, a consumer-facing activation taking place at Ideal Glass Studios in New York City on October 3 and 4. The event will bring together the new collections with personal stories, poetry, and immersive programming. It also reinforces the broader idea behind the launch: that travel is not simply about getting somewhere, but about the people, work, experiences, and personal style that happen along the way. With Colman Domingo at the center of its campaign and two new product categories redefining its approach to travel, Away is using its latest launch to show how its luggage can fit into more of life than the journey between departure and arrival. Away introduces the Series 3 and Signature Bag collections, bringing A decade of travel expertise to A NEW generation of products. Sep 29, 2026, 10:00 ET The new travel essentials launch with a campaign starring two time Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning actor, playwright, director, and producer, Colman Domingo NEW YORK, Sept. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - Today, Away, the category-defining travel brand, introduces Series 3 - the evolution of its iconic luggage - and the Signature Bag collection, a line of travel-first bags that blend elevated design with precision organization, made for the journey and life beyond the flight. Together, the collections build on a decade of learnings from millions of travelers, translating real travel needs into thoughtful design. Award winning actor, playwright, director and producer, Colman Domingo joins Away as the face of the campaign to celebrate the originality, category leadership and earned point of view that have defined Away, and the industry, since its launch in 2016. "Series 3 and Signature Bags mark a milestone for Away, and a clear signal of where we're taking the brand. Consumers are traveling differently. The category has evolved. And we've spent a decade learning from both. That's shaping everything we do, from how we design and test our products, to how and where we make them available, to the new ways we're showing up in travelers' lives," said Jessica Schinazi, CEO of Away. "These collections aren't a departure from what made Away great. They're the next expression of it. We've obsessed over every detail, big and small, all in service of making the journey better for the traveler. This is what healthy product evolution looks like: protecting what works, innovating where it matters and continuing to raise the bar we set for ourselves." Series 3 is Away's most significant evolution of the suitcase yet, applying its consumer insights, data and expertise to the details travelers interact with every day. Built around three integrated performance systems - protection, motion and capacity - every element has been designed to make travel feel smoother, simpler and more intuitive. WhisperGlide(TM) 360° Wheels deliver a smoother, quieter roll; StopLock(TM) Brakes keep your suitcase from moving when you're not; and the Infinite Height Trolley stops at any height for more personalized handling. Handsfree Hideaway Hooks seamlessly retract into the trolley poles and create an easy place to hang the extras, while Away's patented CompressMore(TM) Packing System has been upgraded to make packing more intuitive. Every feature is rooted in customer feedback and engineered for a reason - performance that works in the moments that matter, trip after trip. Series 3 is available in Away's Classic and Flex styles: Carry-On 3, Bigger Carry-On 3, Medium 3, Large 3, Trunk 3, Carry-On Flex 3, Bigger Carry-On Flex 3, Medium Flex 3, and Large Flex 3. Electric Iris and Chocolate Brown join the brand's core color palette, alongside Jet Black, Navy Blue, Coast Blue, Olive Green, Cherry Red, Blush Pink and Salt White, with Chartreuse Spark debuting as the seasonal color for the holidays. Prices range from $328-$498. Signature Bags are designed to move at the rhythm of travel - commute to airport, workday to the weekend away - for people who refuse to choose between a bag that looks good and one that works hard. Softer, refined materials and structured silhouettes pair with tonal trims and polished hardware for an elevated look that extends well beyond the airport. Inside, precision organization puts everything in its place: expanded quick-grab pockets, high-contrast interiors, and an at-a-glance layout that makes packing effortless. An updated and detachable strap adds flexibility, while new tag designs and charm placements make each bag feel distinctly yours - all built to a quality standard made to withstand the realities of everyday life. The collection includes the Signature Companion Bag, Signature Tote, Signature Weekender, Signature Triple-Zip Duffle, Signature Slim Commuter Backpack, available across Jet Black, Navy Blue, Coast Blue, Olive Green, Dune Taupe and Chocolate Brown. Prices range from $208-$278. Brought to life through "1 of 1," the campaign takes a cinematic approach to celebrating originality. For Away, that means knowing the traveler, understanding how a bag needs to perform and having the expertise to relentlessly refine every detail. Colman Domingo stars in the campaign because he embodies that same sense of earned perspective: a distinctive point of view grounded in decades of experience and mastery of his craft. "After decades in this business, I've learned that the difference between good and exceptional comes down to the details; the discipline to keep refining, and the respect for craftsmanship that never lets you settle for 'good enough.' I see that same standard in Away," said Colman Domingo. "I travel with a carry-on, no matter how long the trip, so I need luggage that can keep up: thoughtfully designed, built to last, made for people who take their work seriously. That's craftsmanship I recognize, because it's the same standard I hold myself to." "Colman has spent years mastering his craft, but he's also built a life around it, and that combination of confidence, character and lived experience is exactly what we wanted to capture in '1 of 1.' He has this incredible ability to be completely himself in whatever room he's in; there's elegance, humor, curiosity and real substance, but none of it is performative," said Schinazi. "Away has always had a similar point of view. We've never wanted to make travel look perfect or tell people who they should be when they travel. We want to make products that meet people where they are and become part of the lives they're actually living. That's what drew us to Colman." On October 3 and 4, Away will bring the "1 of 1" concept to life in New York City with The Travelers Salon, a consumer-facing activation at Ideal Glass Studios. Created as a gathering place for the people, stories and ideas that make travel worth it, The Travelers Salon will invite guests to experience the new collections and connect through the power of personal stories, poetry and immersive programming. Series 3 and Signature Bags are available starting today, September 29, at awaytravel.com and in its 16 retail locations in the U.S., U.K., and Canada. The "1 of 1" campaign rolls out across linear and streaming TV, digital and social media, and beyond.
