Requirements
  • Two years of insurance verification or registration experience in a hospital or physician office is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of medical insurance plans and products, coordination of benefits guidelines, and requirements for authorizations, pre-certifications, and referrals is preferred.
  • Proficiency with payer online portals and NaviNet, Passport, or other third-party eligibility systems is preferred.
  • Experience working in a high-volume call center is preferred.
  • Proficiency with IDX Flowcast, Imagecast, and Epic electronic medical record systems is preferred.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Skill in using computers and software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, registration systems, and billing systems is required.
  • Basic knowledge of medical diagnoses and procedural codes is required.
  • The ability to organize and take independent action is required.
Responsibilities
  • Financially clear scheduled inpatient and outpatient services, including office visits, testing, diagnostic studies, surgeries, and procedures, before the date of service.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and plan benefits.
  • Contact patients with inactive insurance coverage to obtain updated insurance information.
  • Validate coordination of benefits between insurance carriers.
  • Explain insurance plan coverage and benefits to patients as necessary.
  • Secure insurance authorizations and pre-certifications for patient services both internal and external to Cooper.
  • Create referrals for patients with a Cooper primary care provider and contact external primary care providers to obtain referrals for patients scheduled with Cooper providers.
  • Refer patients with less than 100% coverage to Financial Screening Navigators.
  • Identify copayment, deductible, and coinsurance information.
  • Collect and process patient liability payments before service.
