About the job
- At least five years of hands-on Windows Server and virtualization experience, including production Hyper-V clusters.
- Real-world VMware vSphere/ESXi to Hyper-V migration experience.
- Working knowledge of System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM), Failover Clustering, Active Directory, Domain Name System (DNS), and Group Policy.
- Solid storage and networking fundamentals, including Fibre Channel/iSCSI storage area networks, virtual local area networks (VLANs), virtual switches, and network interface card (NIC) teaming.
- Experience with Veeam Backup & Replication and sufficient PowerShell knowledge to automate repeatable tasks.
- Ability to explain work to customers.
- Build Windows Server Hyper-V hosts and failover clusters using Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV), Live Migration, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel storage area networks.
- Deploy and manage the platform with SCVMM and Active Directory on a segmented VLAN network design.
- Plan and execute VMware-to-Hyper-V migrations using Veeam, from pre-migration preparation through cutover.
- Tune workloads after cutover, including CPU, memory, power settings, and security exclusions.
- Work with Networking and Security on VLAN segmentation, virtual firewalls, and disaster recovery for migrated workloads.
- Handle legacy operating systems and SAP HANA workloads, and document all work.
- Microsoft AZ-800/AZ-801 or Veeam VMCE certifications.
- Azure or AWS experience, especially cloud-based disaster recovery for Hyper-V workloads.
- Managed service provider (MSP) or multi-tenant hosting background, plus experience with FortiGate, Dell iDRAC, or Live Optics.
