Who makes John Deere engines?

Who makes John Deere engines? Sat, October 3, 2026 at 2:45 PM PDT In 1837, an enterprising blacksmith from Illinois laid the foundation for a company that still exists 188 years later. Today, John Deere, named after its founder, has expanded from its agricultural machinery origins to include construction, forestry, and commercial sectors. Well regarded for its products' durability, power, and reliability, the company is also known for continuously developing its equipment line. Manufacturing a wide range of machinery, the company builds its own engines, but in some of its products, John Deere uses other companies' engines. John Deere has several engine manufacturing facilities worldwide, including its French plant in Orleans-Saran, which produces its Powertech diesel engines. The Tiajin, China plant, which builds different tractor models and engines, and its Rosario, Argentina, facility, which also makes tractors and engines. It also operates a plant in India, where the Pune facility builds 5000 series tractors and engines. In the United States, its main facility is the Waterloo, Iowa, factory, which has produced engines since 1918. The company also operates in Torreon, Mexico, a plant with an IT engineering hub, which also builds different capacity engines. John Deere has partnered with other manufacturers for engine requirements. Yanmar, a Japanese company, supplies engines for four different tractor series. Kohler has long been building engines for John Deere, including its K-series engines. Kawasaki has also partnered with John Deere, using its engines for the Z-series mowers, and Briggs and Stratton also supplies its engine in John Deere mowers. For its bigger machinery, John Deere collaborates with German-Swiss company Liebherr for its harvester lineup. Lastly, John Deere also uses Honda engines for some of its generators. Different engines for different machinery. John Deere makes a large percentage of its lawnmowers and tractors in America, and its engines have a strong following due to its exceptional capability to perform under demanding conditions. Starting its foray into engine manufacturing in 1918, when it acquired the Waterloo Engine Company, John Deere was able to develop its own diesel engine 31 years later for use in its Model R tractor. In the succeeding decades, John Deere continued to advance its diesel-based powerplant designs, with noteworthy examples including the Tier 1 engine from 1996 and the Tier 5, launched in 2022. John Deere engines are also used for several marine applications, where it powers private and commercial marine vessels. Currently, the marine engine lineup consists of three segments, the auxiliary and power generation variant, the industrial marine engine, and the propulsion variant. Another important use of John Deere engines is for power generation, and the company offers a selection of models, starting from small 3,600 watt portables, up to larger 10,000 watt units. John Deere currently has 25 brands under its portfolio, including construction equipment conglomerate Wirtgen, and agri-industry companies A&I, Mazzotti, PLA, and Hagie. While the company has outsourced some of its engine production, John Deere itself has produced over 6 million engines, and continues its tradition of innovation with its ogoing plans for electric tractors and its selection of products that aren't tractors. Finally, in addition to electric tractors, the company is also working on battery and charging systems for the construction and mining industry, helping pave the way for more eco-friendly and sustainable John Deere-branded machinery for the coming years.

John Deere returns to LAMMA 2027. John Deere will showcase its latest 6M and 6R tractors, F8 600 forage harvester and C442R combi-baler at LAMMA 2027. Head of Machinery and Farm Technology John Deere will return to LAMMA in January 2027 with a line-up focused on its latest tractors, forage harvester and baling technology, including several machines launched during the past two years. The manufacturer's stand will feature the new 6R and 6M tractor ranges, alongside an F8 600 forage harvester and C442R variable-chamber wrapping baler. John Deere says the show will give visitors an opportunity to see the latest machines in person and experience their operator environments. The 6R range will be represented by the new 6R 240, which adds a higher-horsepower model to the large-frame range. The updated tractors feature a range of developments aimed at improving road transport, field performance and operator comfort. The 6M range has also received a major update, with 17 models across five wheelbases and a top speed of 50km/h. Transmission choices include the e19 full powershift and AutoPowr stepless transmission, alongside a range of technology options allowing operators to specify different levels of precision farming functionality. John Deere will also showcase its F8 600 forage harvester, which features a redesigned cab offering increased space and reduced noise and vibration compared with the previous 8000 and 9000 Series machines. Completing the line-up is the C442R combi-wrapper, which incorporates precision farming technology including optional moisture measurement and bale weighing. The system can record bale location, quantity and material parameters, providing operators and contractors with additional data for record keeping and machine management.

John Deere calls back 60 workers from layoff.

John Deere calls back 60 workers from layoff. * Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier * Sep 28, 2026 Updated 1 hr ago The Gazette offers audio versions of articles using Instaread. Some words may be mispronounced. WATERLOO - John Deere is bringing back more than 60 workers to its Waterloo operations this fall. In a statement, the company said the workers will help "address employee attrition, meet customer demand and build dealer inventory as part of long-term operational planning." The company says around 900 employees have been brought back across Iowa and Illinois since January. Earlier this month, the company announced it would bring back more than 375 employees at its Quad Cities factory operations. Between October 2023 and October 2025, Deere laid off 3,814 employees in Iowa and western Illinois. There have been no reported Deere layoffs in 2026. In late August, United Auto Workers members voted down a two-year extension to their current collective bargaining with Deere. Moline, Illinois-based Deere announced the extension offer July 7 and asked the union for a decision by midnight Aug. 31. Tim Cummings, president of UAW Local 838 in Waterloo, noted the outcome in a Facebook post. "The members decided to turn down the proposal and go to bargaining in 2027," Cummings said in the post at the time. The current contract is set to expire in October 2027. Deere expressed disappointment in the outcome of the vote. Deere has invested $13.8 million in new equipment at the Waterloo Foundry, the company told The Courier earlier this year, some of which was added over the Christmas holiday. Deere is spending millions more on upkeep of that equipment, adding technology and maintaining a facility that has been "state-of-the-art" since in opened in the early 1970s. Deere says as it aligns production schedules with its multi-year operational plans, the company expects to be well positioned to continue supporting customers and provide uninterrupted access to the equipment, technology, and service they need across a range of business conditions. Deere & Company reported net income of $1.379 billion for the third quarter ended Aug. 2, or $5.10 per share, compared with net income of $1.289 billion, or $4.75 per share, for the quarter ended July 27, 2025. For the first nine months of the year, net income was $3.808 billion, or $14.06 per share, compared with $3.962 billion, or $14.57 per share, for the same period last year. Worldwide net sales and revenues increased 5%, to $12.608 billion, for the third quarter of 2026 and rose 7%, to $35.589 billion, for nine months. Net sales were $10.999 billion for the quarter and $30.779 billion for nine months, compared with $10.357 billion and $28.338 billion last year, respectively. "Deere delivered a strong quarter, reflecting disciplined execution by our teams and continued resilience across our portfolio," said John C. May, chairman and chief executive officer. "Our performance underscores the strength of our business, supported by stable U.S. market conditions, our ability to manage softer conditions in Brazil and Europe, and our commitment to helping customers succeed."
