  • At least 5 years of experience working on automation, robotics applications, and fixture design for mass production applications.
  • Expertise in machine and fixture design.
  • Experience designing, deploying, qualifying, supporting, and project managing automated manufacturing process lines incorporating machine vision, motion control, and sensors.
  • Extensive experience using computer-aided design to review and design mechanical components, complex assemblies, and precision fixtures, and to create engineering part drawings using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing practices.
  • A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in engineering, including mechanical, manufacturing, automation, mechatronics, or robotics engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Ability to reconcile design-for-manufacturing feedback with design goals, anticipate risks, identify mitigation opportunities, drive root cause and corrective action, and complete process optimization using design of experiments and statistical data analysis.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple concurrent projects requiring creative solutions and technical problem-solving.
  • Expertise in vision-guided assembly, precision dispensing, and laser welding applications in a mass production environment.
  • Experience designing scalable, modular fixtures reusable across multiple product generations.
  • Expertise with major six-axis industrial robots, programmable logic controllers or industrial personal computers, associated programming languages, motion-control components, machine-vision components, and sensors.
  • Experience working overseas with international supply chains and contract manufacturers.
  • Fluent spoken and written English, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and issues clearly to audiences with mixed backgrounds.
Responsibilities
  • Drive automation and fixture design activities, including machine design, vision, controls, and component fixturing, for key manufacturing processes in enclosure and module spaces.
  • Innovate assembly fixture designs through brainstorming and computer-aided design conceptualization to reduce costs and improve part yields.
  • Work with engineering teams to identify automation needs and opportunities, provide design-for-automation feedback, conceptualize automation and modular fixtures, assess design and schedule risks, analyze new technology capabilities, negotiate deliverables, and create proofs of concept where necessary.
  • Work with integrators to drive detailed design reviews, iterate on fixture concepts, execute proofs of concept, maintain and resolve issue lists, implement data logging and traceability requirements, review control logic and programming, and define qualification requirements for factory and site acceptance testing.
  • Develop modular component-fixturing designs so fixtures can be reused across product generations and capital equipment reuse is maximized.
  • Work with operations teams, cross-functional product design teams, and contract manufacturers to evaluate automation and fixture implementation risks, create technical requirements and request-for-proposal packages, assess automation integrator capabilities, provide design-for-manufacturing feedback, support integrator selection activities, and estimate automation costs and capabilities.
  • Evaluate fixture costs through comprehensive design reviews and track return on investment across projects to ensure commercial viability.
  • Provide on-site technical support during factory and site acceptance testing, stress runs, new product introduction builds, and production ramp as needed to ensure equipment capability, availability, and productivity.
  • Validate new fixture designs through rigorous testing and iteration to improve part quality.
  • Coordinate activities with overseas counterparts to improve process capability, complete deliverables on time, and identify and mitigate risks ahead of schedule.
  • Present detailed analysis to decision-makers to support commercial and design decisions.
  • Drive research and development activities in-house and with industry partners to deliver significant improvements to process capability.
  • Design precision fixtures for advanced automation stations including laser welding, precision dispensing, insert molding, and automated adhesive or masking-tape application.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment capabilities and key process drivers, monitor industrial developments, and apply new technologies to improve capabilities.
  • Travel overseas consistently and domestically occasionally on a quarterly basis.

Nvidia, Fortinet, Alphabet, Microsoft and Apple positioned to weather higher interest rates

The US Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points yesterday, bringing the federal funds target range to 3.75%–4.00%. This monetary tightening could pressure economic growth and compress valuations in the technology sector. However, companies with strong balance sheets, robust cash flow, and minimal dependence on external financing are better positioned to weather higher rates. Five tech stocks stand out in this regard: Nvidia, Fortinet, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Apple. Nvidia generated $24.1 billion in operating cash flow in Q2 and held roughly $56.6 billion in cash and marketable debt securities. Fortinet produced $966 million in free cash flow on $2.05 billion of Q2 revenue. Alphabet ended Q2 with approximately $242.5 billion in cash and equivalents.

OpenAI has denied Apple's allegations of trade secret theft in a US District Court filing, calling the dispute "a mess of Apple's own making". Apple sued OpenAI and two former employees in July, accusing them of misappropriating trade secrets related to hardware design and manufacturing. OpenAI argued that California law permits employees to move freely between employers. Court filings reveal OpenAI has hired roughly 400 former Apple employees for its hardware initiative. The lawsuit marks an escalation between the companies, who partnered two years ago to integrate ChatGPT into Siri. That relationship has since deteriorated as Apple shifted towards using Google's Gemini to power its redesigned Siri instead of deepening ties with OpenAI.

31% of Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio rides on Apple and Alphabet under Greg Abel

Greg Abel, who leads Berkshire Hathaway's investment strategy, has positioned approximately 31% of the firm's portfolio in two AI-related stocks: Alphabet and Apple. Alphabet represents nearly 10% of the portfolio following aggressive purchases since the third quarter of 2025. Berkshire acquired nearly 106 million shares across both tickers. Despite capital expenditures of $195 billion to $205 billion this year, Alphabet's revenue growth accelerated from 14% to 24% year-over-year, whilst Google Cloud grew 82%. The company generated $53 billion in free cash flow and trades at a 17 P/E ratio. Apple comprises just over 20% of Berkshire's holdings, though this represents a reduction from its previous 50% share. Trading at 38 times earnings, Apple now appears positioned as a hold rather than a buy. Berkshire Hathaway maintains approximately $366 billion in reserves.

HBO boss reacts to Apple TV winning more Emmy awards. Apple TV won big at the Emmys last night, taking home more awards than any other competitor, including HBO. Here's what HBO boss Casey Bloys said in response to Apple's victory. HBO head praises Apple TV but says going against trillion-dollar company is 'a little scary' Apple TV has long been compared to HBO, with both services prioritizing quality over quantity. Apple has even been called "the new HBO" at times. Last night's Emmy awards helped add more support for that claim, with Apple TV beating out HBO, Netflix, and other contenders for the most prizes. Apple TV became the "most awarded network of the year" with 29 wins overall, including a big night for Widow's Bay. In second place: HBO with 21 wins. HBO boss Casey Bloys was asked by Deadline after the awards show for his reaction to Apple's performance. Here's what he said: DEADLINE: What did you think about Apple TV's performance and their first time finishing as the No. 1 platform at the Emmys? BLOYS: Well, I'm very happy because I think that they're very handsome competitors, Zack and Jamie. Look, we've had very formidable competitors in going back to Showtime, FX, AMC, Netflix, Amazon, so [when] Apple, everybody, keeps us on our toes, I think we do our best work. It's a little scary that they're a trillion-dollar company, but we'll continue to do what we do, which is put out the best shows that we can. Bloys has been at HBO since 2004 and became head of all programming in 2016. He's had a very successful run, and his response to Apple's win is largely gracious and congratulatory. However, the most interesting part of the quote is where he says: "It's a little scary that they're a trillion-dollar company." We don't know internal budget details for Apple TV specifically. But Apple overall certainly does have more financial leeway than the majority of its competitors - including HBO. Not so coincidentally, Paramount is trying to buy HBO (and all of Warner Bros. Discovery) in order to better compete with tech giants like Apple and Amazon. Does Apple's size automatically give it an edge? Maybe.
