Requirements

  • Knowledge of art and design concepts, a variety of media and materials, and a broad range of art history is required.
  • Broad knowledge of drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, collage, design, and construction is required.
Responsibilities
  • Use state standards and curriculum to create a rigorous, objective-driven arts program.
  • Use technology tools for instruction, planning, and communication, and ensure student engagement.
  • Learn new uses and applications of technology tools.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to create interdisciplinary units that teach grade-level content knowledge and skills through the arts.
  • Promote student self-expression and exploration while deepening students' knowledge and understanding of art, design, and art history.
  • Incorporate art history in engaging and meaningful ways aligned with student objectives.
  • Measure student achievement and progress toward learning objectives using the school's formative and summative assessment tools.
  • Provide ongoing and timely feedback to students on their progress toward meeting expectations and achieving goals.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Establish, involve, and assist students in developing, maintaining, and evaluating portfolios.
Desired Qualifications
  • New York State Art Teacher Certification is preferred.
