About the job
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Three years of experience in the clinical area, including at least one year in the area of specialty, or a bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing with two years of clinical-area experience, including at least one year in the area of specialty.
- A current license in Georgia as a Registered Nurse, a Nurse Compact license, or a multistate license.
- Certification in the American Heart Association's Basic Cardiac Life Support.
- Visual color acuity as required for the specific unit.
- Compliance with hospital and professional license, certification, in-service, and training requirements.
- Familiarity with nursing care issues related to medical problems, surgical procedures, diagnostic studies, and technical training in the use of equipment pertinent to the area.
- Provide supervision of the nursing operations of a unit and assume 24-hour nursing responsibility in the absence of the Manager or Director.
- Perform the duties and responsibilities of a Staff Registered Nurse for a specific patient population when required.
- Make daily staff work assignments based on patient acuity and staff clinical competence, and recommend staffing requirements for the next shift.
- Make patient rounds, evaluate nursing and unit activities, set patient-care priorities, and recommend operational changes to enhance unit services.
- Supervise nursing and patient-care staff, including orienting, training, counseling, and evaluating them.
- Interpret and communicate hospital and division nursing philosophy, policies, procedures, and established standards of care and practice.
- Assist in developing department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain adequate supplies and equipment for unit operations and recommend actions to control the operational budget.
- Participate in unit quality-improvement activities.
- Coordinate admissions and discharges.
- Serve as a communication liaison among patients, families, staff, and physicians, and report critical consequences of actions to the Manager or Director.
- Practice proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Immediately report equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, and employee, visitor, or patient injuries or accidents to the Manager or Director.
- Participate in committees and conferences as appropriate for the position.
- An additional life-support credential such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, or Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification, or another clinical specialty certification for the applicable unit.
