Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • MODIFI raised $15 million from SMBC Asia Rising Fund in November 2024.
  • India business grew 38% year over year in 2024, with 2025 expansion plans.
  • MODIFI still markets 10-minute export finance, signaling continued product-market fit and demand.

What critics are saying

  • MODIFI depends on bank funding; SMBC and Maersk can tighten terms in 2026.
  • Trade-finance incumbents like HSBC, BNP Paribas, and fintechs compress pricing and win SMEs.
  • Asia expansion needs regulatory approvals and distribution; missed execution burns the $15 million round.

What makes MODIFI unique

  • MODIFI digitizes SME trade finance end-to-end, from invoice payment to shipment tracking.
  • SMBC and Maersk backing gives MODIFI institutional capital and logistics credibility.
  • Its cross-border B2B focus targets underserved exporters and importers banks ignore.
