The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is part of CGIAR, a global research partnership that studies tropical agriculture to reduce poverty and improve food and nutrition security. It develops and applies agricultural science and innovations—breeding crops, improving farming practices, and forging technologies and partnerships—to help smallholder farmers, especially women, grow more food with better nutrition and resilience. Unlike single-institution programs, IITA works within a large, networked system of regional partners to scale practical solutions across the tropics and emphasizes poverty reduction, gender inclusion, nutrition, and sustainable resource management. Its goal is to create a world free of poverty, hunger, and environmental degradation by helping poor people nourish their families, boost productivity, and participate in economic growth amid climate change.
