Daktronics to exit Ireland plant, taking $14.5M in restructuring costs

Daktronics will close its Ireland manufacturing facility by mid fiscal 2028 and shift production across the US, Mexico, and China. The company announced the plan in October 2026. The restructuring and realignment will cost about $14.5 million. Daktronics aims to cut fixed costs and make better use of its factories. About $1.0 million of that covers expanding in Mexico, moving to a larger leased site in China, and trimming US capacity through attrition and voluntary terminations. The move concentrates output in larger, more automated sites. Analysts forecast revenue of $1.1 billion and earnings of $98.3 million by 2029. Execution risk remains, including a possible exit from highly customised transportation work and information requests from the NBA and SEC.

Omdia: Global LED video display market set for higher-value growth despite near-term challenges.

Omdia: Global LED video display market set for higher-value growth despite near-term challenges. LONDON: The global LED video display market is facing slower growth amid rising component costs, trade tensions and weaker demand in traditional applications. However, new Omdia research forecasts an 11.6% CAGR in revenue between 2026 and 2030, supported by emerging applications, regional manufacturing expansion and a shift towards higher-value products. According to Omdia's LED Video Display Market Tracker- 2Q26, global shipments increased 3.3% increase year-on-year in 2Q26 while revenue declined 0.2% highlighting continued pressure on the industry. Since late 2025, manufacturers have faced significant increases in component costs. Suppliers of LED chips, driver ICs, printed circuit boards (PCBs), power supplies, and other materials have announced successive price adjustments. In response, several brands have implemented three to four rounds of increases, with cumulative product adjustments ranging from 3% to 30%. "Rising prices and changing market conditions are prompting vendors to reassess their product portfolios and focus om higher-value opportunities," said Cindy Liu, Senior Analyst at Omdia. "Vendors are increasingly prioritizing mid-range and premium products, improving energy efficiency, reliability while expanding production capacity in areas where they have competitive advantages." Emerging markets drive regional manufacturing expansion Despite near-term challenges, emerging markets across Asia & Oceania, Latin America & the Caribbean, Middle East & Africa and Eastern Europe present significant growth opportunities. Urbanization, infrastructure investment, energy-efficiency initiatives and growing adoption of digital display technologies are encouraging manufacturers to expand regional production and diversify supply chains. For example, Daktronics is investing in a new manufacturing facility in Saltillo, Mexico with shipments expected to provide greater flexibility in managing production costs, tariff and regional customer requirements. Similarly, Leyard has been expanding its manufacturing presence in Saudi Abria following a 2024 agreement with Saudi Engineer Holding Group Establish (EHG), with production originally scheduled to begin in 2Q26. Emerging applications create new opportunities Technological advances in Micro LED, chip-on-board (COB) packaging, high-precision seamless splicing and interactive technology, are expanding the role of LED video displays beyond traditional applications. Among overall flat shipment volume, where innovative applications are no longer niche experimental projects, but scalable, commercially viable solutions generating measurable business and social value. Across sports venues, immersive cultural tourism, film and television production, public safety and commercial retail, LED video displays are evolving from supporting hardware into a core driver of scenario transformation. Immersive entertainment, cultural attractions, virtual production, sports venues and commercial environments are creating opportunities for manufacturers to deliver more sophisticated display solutions. Curved and spherical LED installations, for example, are enabling immersive visual experiences in planetariums, science centres and cultural attractions. Meanwhile, multi-sided LED CAVE systems provide immersive environments without requiring head-mounted devices, supporting applications ranging from museums and corporate exhibitions to simulation and training. These developments are expected to support stronger market growth from 2027 onwards. Omdia forecasts global LED video display revenue will grow at an 11.6% CAGR between 2026 and 2030 with corporate signage and public space applications forecast to achieve higher CAGRs of 14.7% and 10.0%, respectively.

Over 100 jobs to go as Daktronics confirms Ennistymon plant closure.

Over 100 jobs to go as Daktronics confirms Ennistymon plant closure. The company confirmed at the start of September that it was entering a collective redundancy consultation with jobs at risk. 5.42pm, 14 Oct 2026 US HEADQUARTERED ELECTRONIC display system firm, Daktronics has announced the closure of its manufacturing facility in Ennistymon in north Clare with the loss of over 100 jobs. In an announcement on Wednesday, Daktronics stated that the company will begin to exit its manufacturing operations here with the closure of its Ennistymon plant anticipated to be substantially complete by mid-fiscal 2028. The move to shut down the Ennistymon facility follows Daktronics' decision to exit from the highly customized portion of its International Transportation business, which serves rail, bus and roadway customers outside of North America. The company stated that the action "is intended to reduce fixed costs with a low or negative return outlook and improve manufacturing utilisation across the company's global manufacturing network". President and chief executive of Daktronics, Ramesh Jayaraman, stated that "exiting Ireland and aligning our manufacturing capacity will help us manage factory utilisation across the network more effectively, improve workforce productivity, set the stage for further automation, and streamline procurement initiatives." He added: "We are taking these steps to meet the evolving needs of our customers." Vice President for International Markets at Daktronics Judd Guthmiller said that "it is with deep regret that we make today's announcement". Guthmiller stated that "this has been a very difficult decision and has not been taken lightly, but market realities have made it unavoidable." He said: "It does not diminish the enormous contribution our Irish colleagues have made to the company and to our customers, and our focus now is on supporting the team through the closure process in the best way possible." Today's announcement followed the company confirming at the start of September that it was entering a collective redundancy consultation after it informed its employees that their positions were at risk. In a statement today, the company stated the Ireland phased-exit is expected to result in $13.5 million (€12.07 million) of cumulative pre-tax charges, including employee-related costs, facility wind-down and equipment-transfer costs, and potential asset impairments. The company stated that it expects to recognise approximately $5.3 million (€4.74 million) of related restructuring charges in Q2 of fiscal 2027, with the remaining costs, largely severance, charged in subsequent quarters as incurred through the completion of the phased exit. Daktronics stated that when fully implemented, the Ireland action is expected to generate $7.7 million (€6.88 million) of annualised pre-tax savings which it stated will fully offset the associated implementation costs in less than two years, "while contributing to the Company's broader structural cost reduction and margin improvement objectives". The most recent accounts for Daktronics Ireland Co Ltd show that the company was profitable. The accounts show that for the 12 months to the end of April 2025, the firm recorded a pre-tax profit of €586,003 as revenues decreased by 8.5pc from €17.98 million to €16.44 million. The company at the end of April 2025 employed 116, and staff costs for the year totalled €6.49 million.
