Gears of War creator cliffyb comments on E-Day.

Gears of War creator cliffyb comments on E-Day. Published Oct 9, 2026, 4:00 PM EDT James Ratcliff joined Game Rant in 2022 as a Gaming News Writer. In 2023, James was offered a chance to become an occasional feature writer for different games and then a Senior Author in 2025. He is a third-generation Texan who has written professionally for over a decade at local newspapers, addressing various topics for his readers. Since 2024, James has shifted his complete focus to covering gaming news. Gears of War series creator Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski shared some positive and candid thoughts about Gears of War: E-Day during a video interview. Though he was not involved in the development of Gears of War: E-Day, Bleszinski's contributions laid the foundation for the entire Gears of War franchise. Bleszinski started his career as a game developer during his teenage years in the early 1990s. Shortly after joining Epic Games, Bleszinski went to work on games such as Jazz Jackrabbit and Unreal Tournament, with the latter being considered one of the most influential titles ever. Bleszinski later became the co-creator of Gears of War, where he was also the chief designer of the series' first three entries. Microsoft later acquired the rights to the Gears of War series in 2014, two years after Bleszinski left Epic Games. CliffyB shares some positive thoughts on Gears of War: E-Day. With Gears of War: E-Day already setting records, Bleszinski weighed in on the direction of the franchise he created. On the October 9 episode of Pause for Thought with Naomi Kyle, Bleszinski said that Gears of War: E-Day was "a class example of, when in doubt, give the people what they want." He recalled seeing a trailer for E-Day that showed Marcus Fenix throwing a TV a Locust Horde unit as a way to demonstrate just how powerful the Locust were. Bleszinski said that the music that played during the trailer was a callback to moments from the Gears series, which gave him "goosebumps." Bleszinski then said that he was disappointed to see that camera shaking during character movement was not present. However, Bleszinski stated that, if camera shaking was the only qualm he had about the game, then he believed that the franchise was heading in the right direction. Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero. Member mode Sign in to compete on the leaderboard and access the toughest difficulty mode. Though Bleszinski said he would not be playing E-Day himself, he said that he would watch his wife, Lauren, play through the game instead. The Gears of War creator stated that Microsoft sent him a new Xbox controller based on E-Day's designs. Bleszinski also revealed that, after he and other former Gears of War devs left Epic Games, former Xbox CEO Phil Spencer personally called him to mention that Microsoft had purchased the rights to the series. Bleszinski stated that he thinks Spencer's successor at Xbox, Asha Sharma, is seemingly doing a good job at "turning the ship around."

Capcom's RE Engine is set for an ai-focused development overhaul.

Capcom's RE Engine is set for an ai-focused development overhaul. Ethan Crossfield Oct 05, 2026, 10:35 Capcom is preparing a major evolution for the RE Engine, with a new project called REX intended to bring AI deeper into the studio's development workflow. The company says the system will focus on helping developers work faster and improve performance and quality assurance, rather than filling finished games with AI-generated content. That distinction matters as publishers and developers face growing scrutiny over how artificial intelligence is used in game production. What happened at Capcom's RE Engine conference. Programmer Satoshi Ishida introduced REX during Capcom's Open Conference RE:2026. The project is described as an upgrade that will turn the existing RE Engine into an AI-generation game engine, with its main role centered on development tools and internal production tasks. Capcom's stated aim is to create games alongside AI by using the technology to reduce the time spent on repetitive or technically demanding work. The company also connected REX with better efficiency, engine performance, and quality assurance. Based on the information revealed so far, REX is not being presented as a system that will independently produce Capcom's finished games. Why the RE Engine's next phase matters. The RE Engine is no longer limited to Resident Evil. Capcom has used it across major releases including Street Fighter 6, Devil May Cry 5, and Monster Hunter Rise on Nintendo Switch. It has also supported Mega Man projects such as the Star Force Legacy Collection and the upcoming Mega Man: Dual Override. Any change to the engine could therefore affect a broad range of Capcom's future development pipelines. The studio's position on AI is consistent with earlier comments made at a 2026 shareholders meeting. Capcom said it does not plan to add AI-generated content to its games, while acknowledging uses such as generating ideas for artists to develop further and assisting with graphics upscaling. REX appears to extend that internal-support approach rather than reverse it. That approach is still likely to attract attention. AI-generated assets have become a major industry flashpoint, and Steam now requires developers to disclose AI use during development. Epic Games also faced criticism over an AI-generated Darth Vader voice in Fortnite, followed by charges from SAG-AFTRA. Capcom's emphasis on production assistance may reduce some concerns, but transparency will remain important. What to watch next. Capcom has not provided a public release schedule for REX or detailed which development tasks will receive AI support first. The next meaningful updates will likely clarify how much of the system is used for testing, asset preparation, performance work, or other behind-the-scenes processes. The results may become easier to judge through Capcom's upcoming games. The studio has already had a strong 2026, with Resident Evil Requiem becoming the fastest-selling mainline Resident Evil title after its February launch. Pragmata also passed two million copies sold within 16 days of its April release. If REX helps Capcom maintain that output without replacing creative staff or introducing undisclosed generated assets, it could become a significant part of the company's long-term engine strategy. Key takeaways. * REX is an AI-focused expansion of Capcom's RE Engine. * The project is aimed primarily at development efficiency, performance, and quality assurance. * Capcom says it does not intend to use AI-generated content directly in its games. * The engine supports franchises well beyond Resident Evil, including Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter, and Mega Man. * Future announcements should clarify REX's specific tools, rollout, and disclosure practices. Expert view. REX is less a promise of AI-made Capcom games than a test of whether AI can remain useful, accountable infrastructure. The project could help the studio handle large multi-franchise production more efficiently, but the value will depend on clear limits and honest disclosure. For players, the most important question is not whether AI appears somewhere in the pipeline; it is whether Capcom can use it without weakening the human direction behind its games.
