Adani Power, Druk Green to develop 770 MW Hydropower Project in Bhutan.

Adani Power, Druk Green to develop 770 MW Hydropower Project in Bhutan. Read Time: 3 mins Adani Power Ltd. has partnered with Bhutan's state-owned generation utility Druk Green Power Corp. Ltd. (DGPC) to set up a 770 MW Chamkharchhu-I Hydroelectric Project in the Kingdom of Bhutan, according to a press release by the company. Both companiies signed a Shareholders Agreement (SHA) to materialise the partnership in the presence of Prime Minister of Bhutan, Lyonchen Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Minister of Finance and the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, along with representatives from Druk Holding & Investments Limited (DHI), Bhutan Power Corporation Limited (BPC), the DGPC Board, DGPC Management, and Adani Power. The project marks the second major hydropower collaboration between the two partners following the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project agreement signed in September 2025, and forms part of the broader 5,000 MW hydropower development Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Adani Group and DGPC in May 2025. The peaking run-of-river project is located in central Bhutan's Zhemgang District and on the Chamkarchhu River and the project will be implemented under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model through a 49:51 equity partnership between Adani Power and DGPC with a concession of 30 years from COD. The project will strengthen Bhutan's clean energy generation capacity and enhance regional energy cooperation, with construction expected to commence in the first half of 2027 and commissioning targeted for six years from groundbreaking. "We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with the Royal Government of Bhutan and DGPC through the Chamkharchhu Hydroelectric Project. Hydropower will play a pivotal role in accelerating South Asia's energy transition, and this project will contribute significantly to enhancing energy security, reducing carbon intensity, and advancing shared sustainability goals," said Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Adani Power. He highlighted that while the project is expected to help meet Bhutan's peak winter electricity requirements, it will also enable the export of surplus green power to India during the summer months, creating long-term value for both nations. "This partnership marks another significant milestone in Bhutan's hydropower development journey and further strengthens the long-standing energy partnership between Bhutan and India. The 770 MW Chamkharchhu-I Hydropower Project will contribute to strengthening Bhutan's energy security, particularly during the winter months, while creating opportunities to optimise and export surplus clean energy to India," outlined Dasho Chhewang Rinzin, MD, DGPC. He added that beyond the project itself, this collaboration reflects the both companies' shared commitment to developing Bhutan's renewable energy resources through strong partnerships and responsible, efficient project delivery. "We look forward to working closely with Adani Power to realise this important project and to advancing further opportunities under the broader hydropower development partnership," he concluded. Both organisations remain actively engaged in evaluating additional hydropower opportunities under the broader 5,000 MW development programme (Disclaimer: New Delhi Television is a subsidiary of AMG Media Networks Limited, an Adani Group Company.) Adani Group, Kachchh University launch Green Energy centre of Excellence.

Adani Group, Kachchh University launch Green Energy centre of Excellence. Read Time: 3 mins The university-based centre will follow a structured learning model. Adani Skills and Education (ASE), the skilling and capability-building arm of the Adani Group, on Sunday inaugurated a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Green Energy at Kachchh University in Bhuj, aiming to create a skilled workforce for India's rapidly expanding renewable energy sector. The facility was inaugurated by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and is expected to train more than 10,000 students annually through specialised programmes focused on renewable energy technologies and industrial automation. The initiative comes at a time when demand for skilled manpower in the clean energy sector is rising sharply. According to the Adani Group, its green energy activities have generated more than 21,000 direct and indirect jobs in Gujarat's Kutch district over the past two years, creating a need for trained professionals capable of building, operating and maintaining renewable energy infrastructure. The Centre of Excellence will offer training in Solar PV Technologies, Wind Energy Systems, Hybrid Energy Systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Digital and Industrial Automation. It will also support applied research and entrepreneurship in the green energy space. Adani Group Director Karan Adani said the renewable energy sector would play a critical role in shaping India's future and that the new facility would help prepare students for emerging opportunities both in India and overseas. "This global Centre of Excellence will ensure that students are equipped not only for today's jobs, but also for the emerging new opportunities across India and the world," Karan Adani mentioned. Adani Skills & Education's Chief Executive Officer Robin Bhowmik said the renewable energy industry is expanding rapidly, but the availability of specialised talent has not kept pace with growth. "By working with Kachchh University, we can bring industry requirements into the classroom, give students practical exposure to the technologies they will work with and help them move from education to employment," he added. India has set an ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030, driving investments across the renewable energy value chain. Kutch has emerged as a key hub in this transition, with the Adani Group developing a 30 GW renewable energy park at Khavda spread over 538 square kilometres. The university-based centre will follow a structured learning model that combines classroom instruction, simulation-based training and practical experience. The curriculum includes solar and wind power technologies, renewable energy integration, battery storage systems, microgrids, SCADA systems, Internet of Things (IoT)-based energy applications and smart-grid technologies.
