NVIDIA leads TI on growth and margins despite higher supply constraints and $50B AI lab investment

NVIDIA and Texas Instruments both supply chips for data centres, but their market positions differ sharply. NVIDIA's data centre revenue hit $89 billion in fiscal Q2 2027, with supply constraints expected through fiscal 2028. The company guided fiscal Q3 revenue to $108 billion, approximately 12% above Q2. Texas Instruments guided Q3 2026 revenue to $5.65-6.15 billion, up from $5.5 billion in Q2. Unlike NVIDIA, TI has spare manufacturing capacity and expects most growth from higher unit sales rather than pricing. NVIDIA leads on six key metrics: revenue grew 83% year-over-year versus TI's 16.7%, whilst operating margins reached 65.2% compared to TI's 38.1%. Debt represents just 0.7% of NVIDIA's market value versus 6.1% for TI. TI offers a lower price-to-sales ratio and recently increased its dividend for the 23rd consecutive year. NVIDIA's fiscal Q3 results on 17 November will test whether its advantage holds.

Brandon Fugal took us on a helicopter tour of Utah's real estate boom. Here's what $30 billion of development looks like.

Brandon Fugal took us on a helicopter tour of Utah's real estate boom. Here's what $30 billion of development looks like. A bird's-eye tour of the real estate projects reshaping Utah - from Eagle Mountain's data centers to downtown Salt Lake City's sports district to a $11 billion chip campus in Lehi. // Sept 23, 2026 It's one thing to see Utah driving up and down I-15; it's an entirely different experience to see it from the window of a helicopter with real estate mogul Brandon Fugal as your tour guide. It was a whirlwind: Within the span of half an hour, I met Fugal for the first time, was introduced to the pilot who would very soon hold our lives in his capable hands, and walked through Fugal's hangar (and saw his famous black helicopter seen in "The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch"). I found myself in the red helicopter parked out front, slipped on a pair of headphones (took a selfie), and before I knew it, we were airborne. Seeing just a part of Utah from Fugal's point of view (in a helicopter!) was truly an event like no other. We flew over Utah Lake; I saw my apartment complex and the Utah Business office; we got an aerial view of the Salt Lake Temple construction. As we twisted and turned in the air, watching the helicopter's shadow fly over neighborhoods and roads, I was amazed to see just how many people call this beautiful state home - both a place for their families and their livelihoods. My excitement only grew as we flew past the developments Fugal pointed out that will amplify our state's already-booming economy. From the data centers in Eagle Mountain to the former Wonder Bread factory site in Ogden, here are some up-and-coming areas that we saw on the helicopter ride that you should also keep an eye on. State-Level analysis: where U.S. Semiconductor investment is creating filtration demand.

State-Level analysis: where U.S. Semiconductor investment is creating filtration demand. Demand for industrial filtration in the United States is no longer evenly distributed across the country. A wave of semiconductor fabrication investment is concentrating high-value filtration opportunities, cleanroom air systems, ultra-pure water, chemical filtration and gas purification, into a small number of states, each on its own construction and production timeline. Understanding which states are moving from groundbreaking to commercial production is now a practical requirement for filtration suppliers planning capacity, inventory and service coverage. A national investment wave concentrated in a handful of states. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, more than US$30 billion in proposed CHIPS Act private-sector investments had been announced across 23 projects in 15 states as of August 2024, including 16 new semiconductor manufacturing facilities and over 115,000 expected manufacturing and construction jobs. The Semiconductor Industry Association reports that the broader re-industrialization effort has since scaled further: as of July 2025, companies in the semiconductor ecosystem had announced more than half a trillion dollars in private investment across 28 states since 2020, a build-out projected to triple U.S. chipmaking capacity by 2032 and create or support more than 500,000 American jobs, including 68,000 facility jobs and 122,000 construction jobs. Arizona anchors the largest single-state filtration opportunity. Arizona has emerged as the single largest state-level opportunity. TSMC's own regulatory filings show the company expanding its committed U.S. investment from an initial US$65 billion to US$165 billion, adding three new fabrication plants, two advanced packaging facilities and a major R&D center in Phoenix, a build-out expected to support 40,000 construction jobs and generate more than US$200 billion in indirect economic output across the country over the next decade. Reuters reported in January 2026 that this Arizona-centered commitment now sits inside a broader US$250 billion U.S.-Taiwan investment agreement covering semiconductors, energy and artificial intelligence, underscoring that Arizona's filtration demand curve is tied to a multi-year, multi-phase construction schedule rather than a single project milestone. Texas and the southwest corridor add scale. Texas represents a second major concentration of filtration demand. Samsung's Texas expansion includes two new leading-edge logic fabs, an R&D fab, an advanced packaging facility and expansion of its existing Austin operations, a commitment exceeding US$37 billion. Texas Instruments is separately investing more than US$18 billion through the end of the decade to build three new facilities across Texas and Utah, extending the corridor's filtration requirements beyond semiconductor cleanrooms into related process water and chemical handling infrastructure. New York and Idaho anchor high-purity demand for memory manufacturing. Micron's planned U.S. memory manufacturing program, involving approximately US$125 billion in private capital over two decades including US$50 billion in the first six years, is concentrated in New York and Idaho. The company's planned New York project includes two leading-edge DRAM fabs, each with approximately 600,000 square feet of cleanroom space, while its planned Idaho high-volume manufacturing facility includes a comparable 600,000 square feet of cleanroom area. Facilities of this scale require continuous contamination control rather than one-time filtration purchases, generating recurring state-level demand for replacement filters, high-purity media and monitoring systems once production begins. Ohio shows how a single project can anchor long-term state demand. Ohio illustrates how one project can define a state's filtration trajectory. Intel's own announcements describe an initial investment of more than US$28 billion for two new leading-edge chip factories in Licking County, on a roughly 1,000-acre site that could accommodate up to eight fabs and grow to as much as US$100 billion in total investment over the next decade. Intel finalized a US$7.86 billion CHIPS Act funding award for the Ohio project in November 2024, and the initial phase alone is expected to create 3,000 direct Intel jobs and 7,000 construction jobs, a scale of commitment that gives filtration suppliers a multi-decade planning horizon in a state with limited prior semiconductor manufacturing presence. Conclusion. For industrial filtration suppliers, state-level tracking is no longer optional. Arizona, Texas, New York, Idaho and Ohio each carry a distinct project timeline, cleanroom specification and filtration intensity, and each state's demand curve moves from construction-phase equipment installation to production-phase replacement and consumables at a different pace. Suppliers that align sales, inventory and service capacity with these specific state timelines, rather than treating the U.S. as a single uniform market, are better positioned to capture both the initial equipment opportunity and the recurring aftermarket revenue that follows. Frequently asked questions. Which U.S. states are seeing the largest semiconductor-driven filtration demand? How large is the total announced U.S. semiconductor investment? Why does state-level analysis matter for filtration suppliers specifically?

TI new product! Technical details of the UCD7242 digital dual-channel synchronous buck power driver.

TI new product! Technical details of the UCD7242 digital dual-channel synchronous buck power driver. The Texas Instruments (TI) UCD7242 is a fully integrated digital dual-channel synchronous buck power driver, designed to provide a compact and efficient power management solution for telecom, test instruments, and commercial power applications. In the power architecture of servers, communication equipment and high-end embedded systems, multi-track power supply and high current density are core challenges faced by designers. The UCD7242 launched by Texas Instruments (TI) is a fully integrated digital dual-channel synchronous buck power driver that integrates the high-side MOSFET, low-side MOSFET, driver, current sensing circuit and protection functions into a single chip, providing a compact and efficient solution for dual-track power supply design. I. Product Overview The UCD7242 is a highly integrated power driver chip launched by Texas Instruments for the field of digital power management. The power stage of a traditional synchronous buck converter usually requires discrete high-side MOSFETs, low-side MOSFETs, gate drivers, current detection resistors, and peripheral protection circuits. It has a large number of components, a large PCB area, and high design complexity. By integrating all the above functional modules on a single piece, UCD7242 greatly simplifies the power level design and can save up to 80% of circuit board space and component usage compared with industry-standard discrete solutions. The core design concept of this chip is that the "plug-and-play" power level module - controller only needs to provide PWM signals, and the UCD7242 can autonomously complete all power level functions such as power conversion, current detection, and fault protection, and feed real-time status back to the controller through IMON and TMON pins to form a complete digital closed-loop control link. II. Core Technical Characteristics Wide input voltage range and flexible configuration The standard input voltage range of the UCD7242 is 4.75V to 18V, and when powered by an external bias power supply, the input voltage can operate as low as 2.2V. This wide input range enables it to adapt to a variety of power supply environments, from low-voltage portable devices to 12V industrial buses. The device's internally integrated VGG regulator drives the MOSFET gate to +6.25V, while the internal regulator can be disabled, allowing users to provide independent gate drive voltages, further enhancing design flexibility. High-frequency switching capability The UCD7242 supports switching frequencies up to 2MHz, which can significantly reduce the size of external inductors and capacitors under high-frequency operating conditions, helping to achieve high power density power supply design. The device is fully compatible with TI Fusion Digital Power(TM) digital power controllers (such as the UCD92xx series), enabling the construction of complete digitally controlled buck power systems. Precise on-chip current sensing The UCD7242 has a sophisticated on-chip current sensing element built in, providing +/-5% current measurement accuracy over most load ranges. This feature eliminates the hassle of calibration or temperature compensation in traditional schemes, simplifying system design and production processes. The amplified current signal is output via the IMON pin and can be read and processed by the controller in real time. Complete protection function The device integrates a comprehensive protection mechanism: High-side current limit: The onboard comparator monitors the high-side switching current, turns off the high-side FET and places the fault flag (FLT) in the event of an overcurrent fault, and is equipped with a blanking delay to avoid false alarms caused by switching noise. Thermal protection: The on-chip temperature sensor converts the chip temperature into a voltage output on the TMON pin for the controller to monitor. When the chip temperature exceeds 170°C, the thermal shutdown function is activated, the output switch is stopped and the FLT flag is set. After the temperature drops below the hysteresis loop, normal operation automatically resumes. UVLO vs. OVLO: Internal undervoltage locking and overvoltage locking circuits ensure that the VGG drive voltage is normal before allowing the chip to operate. Synchronous rectifier control The Synchronous Rectification Enable (SRE) pin controls the operating mode of the low-side MOSFET. When SRE is high, the device operates in continuous on mode under all load conditions; when SRE is low, the low-side MOSFET remains off under light load conditions, and the device operates in discontinuous on mode, which helps to improve light load efficiency. The dead time is optimized to effectively prevent cross-conducting of high and low side switches. III. Summary of Technical Parameters The main technical specifications of UCD7242 cover input voltage 4.75V to 18V (minimum 2.2V under external bias), output current per channel up to 10A, switching frequency up to 2MHz, current detection accuracy +/-5%, thermal off threshold 170°C, junction temperature range -40°C to 125°C. The chip is packaged in a 32-pin VQFN-HR package with a size of 6mmx6mm, which complies with RoHS environmental standards. The enhanced product model UCD7242MRSJREP has an extended operating temperature range of -55°C to 125°C, supports defense, aerospace and medical applications, and features extended product life cycle, extended product change notification and product traceability. IV. Typical Application Scenarios The UCD7242 occupies an important position in several high-performance power management fields due to its combined advantages of high integration, wide input range and digital control compatibility: CNC synchronous buck power stage The UCD7242 is an ideal power-level module for building CNC synchronous buck power supplies. Its seamless integration with Fusion Digital Power controllers enables designers to quickly build digital programmable power systems. High-current dual-phase VRM/EVRD voltage regulator This chip is particularly suitable for high-current dual-phase voltage adjustment module (VRM) and enterprise-grade buck regulator (EVRD) designs for desktop, server, telecommunications, and laptop processors. The dual independent channels can serve the processor core voltage and I/O voltage respectively, or be used in parallel to provide a larger total output current. Testing and Instrumentation Equipment The UCD7242's wide input voltage range and digital control capabilities make it suitable for multi-channel precision power rail design in test and instrumentation equipment. Telecommunications and Commercial Power Supply In telecommunications infrastructure and commercial power systems, the UCD7242 can serve as a point-of-load (POL) power level in distributed power architectures, providing efficient power supply for high-performance chips such as FPGAs and ASICs.
