Requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food service management, inventory, and purchasing processes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safe food handling practices.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal food safety regulations and familiarity with relevant food safety and sanitation laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of food allergies, special diets, and therapeutic diets, including the ability to prepare and serve meals in accordance with dietary restrictions and allergies.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare kitchen procedures and food service protocol.
  • Strong knowledge of principles and procedures for instructing and supervising individuals and small groups.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, including the ability to manage a team effectively, maintain effective working relationships, resolve conflicts, and promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Crisis management skills, including the ability to handle food service emergencies or crises such as foodborne illness outbreaks or supply chain interruptions.
  • Knowledge of mathematical computations.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to collaborate with others and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in standard office equipment, a personal computer, and common software including Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of experience working in a lead, supervisor, or trainer capacity in the food services field.
  • ServSafe Food Handler certificate, or the ability to obtain it within six months of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage the food production function at Montana State Hospital over weekends when the manager is not on campus.
  • Plan and implement food preparation assignments.
  • Requisition supplies.
  • Evaluate food production quality and safety standards.
  • Supervise food production personnel.
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate or Technical degree in food service management, nutrition, or a related field.
  • Relevant and recent experience within four years may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience in healthcare food services.
