Responsibilities
  • Execute and ensure deliverables for the Product Development Process during New Product Introduction phases while collaborating and coordinating with Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Software, and Test Engineering counterparts.
  • Drive product development and production for quadcopter drones by supporting drawing and work-instruction reviews, process development, inspection, acceptance-test performance management, end-of-line metrics, verification, validation, and qualification of processes, parts, subassemblies, and the vehicle.
  • Resolve quality ambiguities associated with product maturity, process stability, and field performance that affect quality and reliability goals for volume production.
  • Design, develop, and lead the product quality plan.
  • Own Maintenance Repair and Overhaul disposition decisions for customer-owned hardware and perform troubleshooting and root-cause analysis with Reliability Engineering and other cross-functional teams.
  • Champion the transition from New Product Introduction to a sustainable and predictable high-rate manufacturing process and supply chain.
  • Define and eliminate product risk to improve reliability and quality across the product lifecycle, and manage quality issues from concept through development, manufacturing, and field use.
  • Ensure execution of product and process requirements and define and improve those requirements.

Anduril exits Seattle shipyard following canceled Navy program and omission from new warship list. by John Cook on Aug 21, 2026 at 7:49 am Defense technology giant Anduril Industries has quietly vacated its maritime operations along Seattle's Lake Washington Ship Canal. The exit, confirmed by the company to GeekWire this week, comes after the U.S. Navy canceled the specific unmanned vessel acquisition program Anduril was pursuing at the historic former Foss Maritime shipyard site. "Anduril has moved out of its shipyard space in Seattle," a spokesperson said in a statement. "The space supported a Navy program pursuit; the Navy canceled that program, and the shipyard footprint was no longer needed. The Seattle shipyard presence was always small - a handful of employees worked from the space. Anduril's broader Seattle footprint continues to grow across its other offices in the city." The disclosure provides a sudden plot twist in a maritime push that GeekWire first reported on in April, after Anduril established a presence at the Foss shipyard. At the time, the company offered a muted response when pressed for specifics about its local shipyard activities. The plans went back to late 2025, when Anduril announced a major partnership with South Korea's HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The companies set out to build a new class of dual-use Autonomous Surface Vessels designed to compete for the Navy's Modular Attack Surface Craft (MASC) program, which sought unmanned vessels capable of carrying large payloads over long distances. At the time, Anduril pitched the Pacific Northwest as the ideal industrial launchpad, pointing to the region's historic shipbuilding roots. "Anduril has invested tens of millions of dollars to revamp a previously retired shipyard in the Pacific Northwest region at the historic former Foss Shipyard in Seattle, Washington," the company said during the partnership rollout. "This facility will serve as Anduril's initial U.S. hub for low-rate vessel assembly, integration, and testing of ASVs for the MASC program." That vision, however, was quickly upended. The U.S. Navy canceled the MASC initiative in March, replacing it with a new acquisition strategy for Medium Unmanned Surface Vessels, or MUSVs. Rather than relying on a traditional program competition, the new marketplace allows the Navy to evaluate autonomous vessels through at-sea demonstrations, with successful systems eligible for follow-on production. When the Department of the Navy announced the seven defense vendors selected to move forward in the new program, the lineup included defense contractors like Leidos, Huntington Ingalls Industries, Saronic Technologies and Sea Machines - leaving Anduril off the roster for initial testing. Companies that successfully deploy vessels at sea will receive $15 million, and be eligible for follow-on production. At-sea testing was set to start in June, and is expected to conclude in October. Anduril did not respond to additional questions about the Foss facility, its maritime operations in the Seattle area or its plans for the Navy's new MUSV program. Despite vacating its shipyard presence, Anduril's broader push into Western Washington remains on a steep upward trajectory. The Costa Mesa, Calif.-based company employs 560 people across its Bellevue and downtown Seattle offices - up from roughly 30 four years ago - and operates a multi-acre military testing facility in rural Carnation, Wash. The high-flying defense giant, which closed a $5 billion funding round at a $61 billion valuation earlier this year and is reportedly targeting a $100 billion valuation in a new funding round, is rapidly building a massive engineering footprint in the greater Seattle region. Senior Vice President Tom Keane told GeekWire the company could eventually grow its regional workforce to 1,000 people, including engineers working on augmented reality displays, edge computing hardware and other military technologies. The company claims that its current competitors are mainly defense firms that have secured government contracts, particularly suppliers from Turkey, China, and Western countries. TechCrunch previously mentioned that many African countries still depend on Western, Russian, or Chinese security intelligence and defense capabilities, often collaborating with multiple international contractors. This model results in a fragmented defense supply chain that is more susceptible to external disruptions. Company Claims Contract Amounts Could Reach $100 Million This Year Terra's goal is to become a key supplier of military equipment and critical defense infrastructure to relevant countries, thereby enhancing local supply capabilities. The company stated that it expects to secure $100 million in contracts this year, including at least one federal contract, and aims to achieve tens of millions in revenue by the end of the year. Earlier this year, Terra successfully completed two rounds of financing, raising $11.75 million and $22 million, respectively. With this new financing, the total amount for the seed round has further increased. 8VC has also previously invested in U.S. defense technology companies Anduril and Shield AI, indicating that capital continues to bet on the defense technology sector. Anduril is unhappy that it did not land spots in both portions of a $1.5 billion Homeland Security Department contract for counter-unmanned aircraft systems. The company won a position as one of the comprehensive service providers in track two, but did not receive an award in track one for hardware/software and ancillary services. Anduril is challenging DHS' evaluation of its proposal and argues that it should have received awards for both tracks of the five-year C-UAS vehicle, awarded earlier this month. Track one winners are BAE Systems, CACI International, Dedreone Defense, D-Fend Solutions, EMS Defense Technologies, Fortem Technologies and Leidos. Anduril's competitors in track two are Astrion, BAE, Booz Allen Hamilton, General Dynamics IT, Leidos and Parsons Corp. DHS received 57 offers for track one and 47 for track two. Bidders could pursue both tracks if they wanted to. Anduril filed its protest on Aug. 12. A Government Accountability Office decision is due by Nov. 20.

SHARE/SAVE Aug 8, 2026 The Pentagon aims to conduct the first tests for its futuristic space-based missile defense program by yearend, with flight demonstrations of the unproven technology slated for 2027, people familiar with the matter said. The key milestones are central to pioneering space-based missile interceptors, a pillar of President Donald Trump's $185 billion Golden Dome defense shield. The administration has set aside $3.2 billion to develop prototypes of weaponized satellites to shoot down missiles, with potentially tens of billions of dollars in future contracts. The U.S. Space Force is using an innovative acquisition strategy to attract both traditional and nontraditional vendors, a spokesperson said, adding that details around timelines and specific capabilities would not be released due to operational security. The program marks one of the most ambitious efforts to develop space-based missile defense since Ronald Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative during the Cold War, which was ultimately abandoned due to massive costs, technical challenges and lukewarm political support. Now, the Pentagon says the technology is needed more than ever to counter increasing threats from nuclear-armed nations like Russia and China. "A new generation of advanced air and missile threats, unprecedented in their speed, numbers, and lethality, now holds the American homeland at risk," Gen. Michael Guetlein, the Space Force official leading the Golden Dome effort, told lawmakers at a hearing in April. Space-based interceptors, which no country has yet deployed, are spacecraft that orbit the Earth at thousands of meters per second and are intended to track, detect and shoot down incoming ballistic missiles in the few minutes they travel through space to their intended target. In April, the Space Force announced that it had awarded 12 different companies, including SpaceX, Anduril Industries and Lockheed Martin, contracts to develop prototypes of these orbital interceptors. The Space Force's prototype program identified three types of interceptors it needed: boost-phase, just after a missile launches; midcourse, when it is traveling in space; and glide-phase, when it is back in the atmosphere. The program also includes contracts for firing systems, ground support and integrating future technology, according to people familiar with the matter. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the strategy is confidential. Pentagon officials have set a prize competition that pits teams against one another in a race to score funding each time they hit incremental milestones on the way to a final prototype. The milestones include a ground test, two flight tests in space and an intercept demonstration of the technology in 2029, according to people familiar with the matter. Along the way, companies will be weeded out based on cost, speed and performance. The government has not disclosed how large the reward for each milestone will be. However, a person familiar with the matter said the companies building midcourse interceptors can win roughly $60 million for completing a ground test by the end of this year. This ground test, at least for some companies, will require moving data from sensors to an interceptor and demonstrating their spacecraft's propulsion systems, said people familiar with the matter. Milestones two and three, the people said, are flight tests, in which the teams competing in that area will fire their interceptors into a target area in space, and are planned for 2027 and 2028. For the first flight test, companies building midcourse interceptors can win about $126 million, and the team that completes that test first will be awarded an additional $40 million, a person familiar with the matter said. After that, the Space Force may select only three out of the five teams to move forward, the person said. During the final demonstration planned for 2029, companies must show that their space-based interceptor can detect and shoot down a test target, people familiar with the matter said. The Space Force will then look to procure systems in 2030 from at least some teams that pass the final test. Still, experts are skeptical that the current effort isn't doomed to meet its end like Reagan's SDI. The Congressional Budget Office estimates it would cost more than $700 billion to launch a network of space-based interceptors to counter just a few missiles. Guetlein, the Space Force official, has said he only has about $185 billion to spend on the entire program. Even if it could be done affordably, Democratic lawmakers such as Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey and California Rep. John Garamendi have raised concerns that placing weapons in orbit could lead to a destabilizing arms race with China and Russia. "It will quickly become obvious how expensive and challenging the system is," said Laura Grego, a senior director at the Union of Concerned Scientists. "I just have a hard time imagining this not collapsing under its own weight like it has every time before." SwarmOS coordinated the complete sensor-to-effects mission chain. Autonomous intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft searched for and identified targets of interest, shared targeting information through the Army's C2 environment and, with a soldier retaining decision authority, tasked Gremlin-X, Palladyne AI's low-cost mini-bomber, to engage the target. SwarmOS then coordinated post-strike battle damage assessment. "Ivy Mass was the rehearsal, and PC-C6 was the main event," said Doug Dynes, President of Palladyne Aerospace & Defense. With each successive event, SwarmOS has been required to integrate with more platforms, coordinate more complex mission workflows, and perform in increasingly demanding operational environments. At Ivy Mass, SwarmOS enabled drones from multiple manufacturers to operate under the supervision of a single soldier trained to use the system in less than 30 minutes. At PC-C6, Palladyne AI repeated and expanded that performance inside the Army's emerging C2 architecture and before a broader joint and multinational audience.
