Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience operating a Mark IV Tamper in a railroad construction environment.
  • A safe and efficient machine operation record and an excellent safety record.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, customers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate power tools.
  • Experience operating computers and mobile devices such as iPads and iPhones.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair the machine.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics and electronics.
  • Ability to read and understand construction specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability and willingness to be trained and to train others on the machine.
  • Ability to navigate confined spaces, crouch, stoop, bend, and lift more than 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work in outdoor construction settings, around moving vehicles and equipment, and in changing weather conditions while wearing required personal protective equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Operate a Mark IV Tamper as part of the surfacing unit.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on heavy or specialized equipment.
  • Maintain proper equipment appearance and cleanliness.
  • Perform labor duties as needed.
  • Communicate with the supervisor throughout the job process.
  • Practice safe working habits.
  • Ensure safe working conditions and use the proper personal protective equipment as required.
  • Follow Department of Transportation regulations and ensure that required permits and driving regulations are followed.
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform equipment safety and maintenance checks and make emergency adjustments as necessary.
  • Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, including utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
  • Study instructions, plans, and diagrams to establish work requirements.
