Wilmington startup joins NVIDIA Inception program.

Wilmington startup joins NVIDIA Inception program. By Cierra Noffke, posted Oct 23, 2026 Finley, a Wilmington-headquartered fintech startup building an AI-powered virtual CFO for middle-market companies, has joined NVIDIA's Inception program. Through the Inception program, Finley will gain access to resources and support for AI startups. The company expects to use NVIDIA's tools to expand its platform's capabilities and serve additional industries, according to a company news release. Finley, the company's AI-powered financial tool, focuses on strategic finance and is designed to work alongside accounting and bookkeeping operations. "We've built Finley to be the Fortune 500-caliber AI CFO for middle-market companies," said Finley co-founder and CEO Justin Norwood. Finley's platform targets middle-market companies that may not be able to afford a CFO and are instead "running substantial businesses on nothing more than a Google Sheet and gut instinct," Norwood said. The company is targeting the manufacturing and retail industries, along with service businesses like insurance agencies, law firms and real estate brokerages, with a special focus on wholesale distribution companies. "There's this really interesting undercurrent right now, where about a third of those wholesale distribution companies are running on QuickBooks Desktop," Norwood said. In 2024, Intuit announced it would stop selling new QuickBooks Desktop in the U.S., although existing users could still renew subscriptions and would still receive security and product updates. "Intuit has been phasing out QuickBooks Desktop for years," he added. "They no longer sell it. They're no longer investing in the platform, and so, quite frankly, these wholesale distributors are on a burning platform... We really see Finley not only as sort of this fractional CFO and not only a business coach, but also as this continuity of intelligence because it does uniquely connect to QuickBooks Desktop." Finley's "memory" comes from combining a business's financial data with context details about the business. Norwood said Finley remembers details operators share about their business and can use that context in later analyses. "With Finley, you tell it about your business once and it remembers," Norwood said. "It's able to reason over your entire financial world, whether that be your general ledger or your order data, and take into account what you've already told it." According to the company's website, the platform was built with enterprise-grade security and encryption, drawing on the same practices the founders used when building software for large banks at previous fintech companies. Norwood co-founded Finley after serving as chief market officer at Casca, a San Francisco-based fintech startup that builds AI-native loan origination and assistant platforms. Before his time at Casca, Norwood worked at nCino as global head of AI and data, where he met Finley co-founder Josh Pennington, who led engineering for nCino's AI and data platform as executive director of technology and architecture. "When we entered the era of AI, which I would say is when ChatGPT entered the chat, so to speak, the unit economics changed for the middle market, and so we decided that now was the time to go solve this problem," Norwood said. By working in NVIDIA's Inception program, the company will gain access to developer tools, training and NVIDIA's venture capital network. According to a news release, Finley expects to transition to open-weight AI models, including NVIDIA Nemotron, that run on secure infrastructure controlled by Finley. The announcement follows NC Tweener Fund's third-quarter investment in the brand. Earlier this year, NC IDEA announced it had signed an agreement to become an anchor investor in the then-named Triangle Tweener Fund, effectively expanding the fund's reach from the Triangle region to the entire state. So far this year, including Finley, four Wilmington companies have received NC Tweener Fund investment, and in its third-quarter update, the organization highlighted the fact that "Wilmington is now (its) No. 2 market outside the Triangle for new investments in 2026." Finley raised an oversubscribed $1.85 million pre-seed round led by Durham-based venture capital firm Cofounders Capital this summer. "We wanted our earliest and first institutional investor to come out of the state of North Carolina because we believe we're going to return the fund," said Norwood on partnering with Cofounders Capital. "And we want to pay it forward to the next entrepreneur that comes out of North Carolina."

nCino and Parlay link up to automate SBA lending intake with AI.

nCino and Parlay link up to automate SBA lending intake with AI. nCino (NASDAQ: NCNO) and Parlay have announced a partnership that connects Parlay's AI-native Loan Intelligence System directly into nCino's Commercial and Small Business Solutions, targeting America's 1,400 Small Business Administration lenders. The integration is already live and has processed more than $500 million in SBA loan inquiries so far in 2026, with First Internet Bank among the named early users. The mechanics centre on a one-click handoff. Parlay's agentic workflows handle borrower intake, programme eligibility screening and initial deal structuring before a human banker reviews the file. Existing Parlay customers report a reduction of up to 80% in the manual work needed to produce a credit-ready file, a figure the company attributes to the elimination of paper-heavy SBA documentation processes that have characterised the programme for decades. Under the commercial arrangement, nCino will resell and support Parlay's platform as an add-on for its own customers prioritising SBA lending. Parlay retains the right to serve the broader SBA market directly. Neither company disclosed revenue-sharing terms or the size of any upfront commitment. Alex McLeod, co-founder and chief executive of Parlay, framed the deal as additive rather than disruptive to existing infrastructure: "No rip and replace required, so more small businesses across the country gain faster access to capital." Chris Gufford, nCino's chief product officer, said the pairing adds "agentic capabilities that help lenders move eligible borrowers to approval faster." Market context. The SBA lending market sits at an uncomfortable intersection of high administrative burden and underserved demand. Small businesses account for a significant share of US economic output yet frequently fall outside standard bank credit parameters, partly because originating an SBA loan has historically required specialist staff and significant manual document handling. Community banks and credit unions in particular have been reluctant to build or expand SBA programmes given the overhead involved. The nCino and Parlay partnership is one of several AI-assisted workflow plays targeting this segment. Broader trends in bank technology suggest lenders are moving away from point solutions toward integrated platforms that span origination, underwriting and portfolio management in a single data environment. nCino already serves over 2,700 financial institutions globally and has positioned itself as the orchestration layer for regulated banking workflows, which gives Parlay a substantial distribution channel it would struggle to reach independently. The compliance context is also relevant. SBA loans carry federal guarantee structures administered by the US Small Business Administration, and lenders bear responsibility for programme eligibility determinations. Any AI-assisted eligibility screening tool will need to demonstrate audit trails and human oversight mechanisms that satisfy both the SBA's own lender standards and the broader bank regulatory expectation, from the OCC and FDIC in particular, that automated credit decisions remain explainable and contestable. What to watch. The 80% reduction in manual work is a striking operational claim, though it rests on self-reported customer data rather than an independent audit. The $500 million in processed loan inquiries is a pipeline figure and does not represent originated or funded volume, a distinction that matters when assessing actual throughput. Near-term, the markers to watch are origination volume and pull-through rates from inquiry to funded loan, the pace of adoption among nCino's existing SBA customer base, and any regulatory commentary on agentic AI handling federal programme eligibility. nCino launches AI suite for mortgage loan officers.

nCino launches AI suite for mortgage loan officers. Wed, 14th Oct 2026 (Today) nCino has launched a Loan Officer Productivity Suite for mortgage lenders, combining six AI-based tools within its mortgage point-of-sale system. Aimed at mortgage originators, the suite brings together guidance, workflow prompts, and task automation in one interface. It uses a lender's own data, product guidelines, and workflow rules to answer questions and carry out routine actions with a loan officer's approval. The release adds to a broader push by software providers to apply AI to mortgage processing, as lenders look for ways to reduce manual work and shorten turnaround times. Educated Mortgage already uses the suite, and Security National Financial Corporation is preparing to roll it out to its loan officers. What is included The package includes six products within the nCino Mortgage Point of Sale. Mortgage Advisor for Loan Officers provides a conversational interface where staff can ask questions about their pipeline, individual loan files, and government-sponsored enterprise guidelines. It can also create tasks or send reminders once approved by the user. Loan PreCheck is an AI underwriting tool that reviews borrower eligibility against Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and USDA guidelines before a file reaches underwriting. It recommends what nCino describes as the best-fit loan programme at that stage. Mortgage MCP for Loan Officers lets staff connect their own AI agents to the nCino Mortgage Suite through a single conversational interface. AUS Smart Tasks translates automated underwriting findings into plain-language summaries and suggested follow-up tasks. The remaining two products focus on earlier-stage processing and compliance documents. Automated Pre-approval combines credit authorisation, verification services, fee calculations, and dual AUS integrations in one workflow, while Automated Disclosures covers initial disclosures and redisclosures for standard loan templates. According to nCino, the aim is to keep loan officers in the same system rather than moving between multiple screens and tools during the origination process. That should allow staff to spend more time with borrowers and less on repetitive administrative work. Dan O'Brien, President and Loan Officer at Educated Mortgage, described how one of the tools performed in use. "I asked Mortgage Advisor for Loan Officers something specific, and it cited the guidelines and gave me the guideline almost immediately," he said. "With other AI search tools, you almost have to sit there with 10 different prompts to get the information you're looking for. This is better." Security National Financial Corporation said it sees the system as a way to give loan officers more certainty about file status while routine actions are handled in the background. "We're excited to equip our loan officers with nCino's intelligent features so they'll have more confidence knowing exactly what each file needs to keep moving and can trust that routine tasks and borrower questions are being handled along the way," said Thayne Atkinson, Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Security National Financial Corporation. Mortgage focus The product sits within nCino's broader mortgage software business, which serves banks, credit unions, and independent mortgage lenders. The company has more than 2,700 customers worldwide across financial services, though the announcement focused on the mortgage market and the role of front-line loan officers. Casey Williams, General Manager of Global Mortgage at nCino, said the business case for the suite is tied to workload pressures on originators. "Loan officers are being asked to handle more work without sacrificing responsiveness to borrowers. "The Loan Officer Productivity Suite helps create that capacity by taking routine work off originators' plates and putting answers and next steps at their fingertips, so they can stay responsive and competitive without adding more hours to the day."

nCino unveils Productivity Suite for mortgage Loan Officers.

nCino unveils Productivity Suite for mortgage Loan Officers. * nCino launched its Loan Officer Productivity Suite, a set of AI-powered and automated tools designed to streamline mortgage origination workflows and improve loan officer productivity. * The suite includes six capabilities spanning borrower eligibility checks, underwriting summaries, pre-approvals, disclosures, and connectivity with external AI agents through MCP. * The launch focuses on workflow execution, potentially helping mortgage lenders increase loan volume without adding staff. Agentic AI banking platform nCino unveiled its Loan Officer Productivity Suite today. With the new set of tools, the North Carolina-based company aims to help increase the productivity of mortgage originators by adding automated actions. Launched inside the nCino Mortgage Solution, the new suite uses each lender's own data, product guidelines, and workflow rules to give originators answers specific to their institution and let them take action. Among the clients already using the Loan Officer Productivity Suite is Educated Mortgage, which uses it for daily origination workflows; and Security National Financial Corporation, which uses the tool to prepare its loan officers by giving them relevant borrower information. "We're excited to equip our loan officers with nCino's intelligent features so they'll have more confidence knowing exactly what each file needs to keep moving and can trust that routine tasks and borrower questions are being handled along the way," said Security National Financial Corporation Vice President and CIO Thayne Atkinson. The Loan Officer Productivity Suite is launching with six major elements: * Mortgage Advisor for Loan Officers: Allows originators to ask questions naturally and receive plain-language answers about their pipeline, individual loan files, and GSE guidelines. * Loan PreCheck: Evaluates borrower eligibility against multiple guidelines and recommends the best-fit loan program before the underwriting process takes place. * Mortgage MCP for Loan Officers: Allows loan officers to connect their preferred AI agents directly to the nCino Mortgage Suite using an MCP connection. * AUS Smart Tasks: Turns underwriting findings into a plain-language summary and surfaces suggested tasks. * Automated Pre-approval: Unifies credit authorization, verification services, fee calculations, and dual AUS integrations into a single process. * Automated Disclosures: Automates Initial Disclosures and Redisclosures for standard loan templates. "Loan officers are being asked to handle more work without sacrificing responsiveness to borrowers," said nCino General Manager of Global Mortgage Casey Williams. "The Loan Officer Productivity Suite helps create that capacity by taking routine work off originators' plates and putting answers and next steps at their fingertips, so they can stay responsive and competitive without adding more hours to the day." Since it was founded in 2012, nCino has shifted from a cloud banking tool provider to providing more agentic-focused tools that help clients execute workflows. Because mortgage originators spend a significant amount of time navigating disconnected systems, reviewing borrower information, and completing administrative tasks, shifting to more automated execution could help increase loan volume without adding staff. Additionally, nCino's support for MCP opens the door for lenders to use external AI agents to interact with their mortgage technology, which could change how loan officers work with their existing systems.
