ABOUT YU MING CHARTER SCHOOL

Yu Ming Charter School is a non-profit, tuition-free network of public schools located in Oakland and San Leandro and open to all residents of California. As a leader in Mandarin Immersion education, our mission is to nurture our inclusive and diverse community to become empowered, engaged, and outstanding global citizens. We currently serve 1060 students across three campuses, and continue to grow our enrollment each year. Our intentionally diverse student body comes from many racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds representing 70 zip codes across the Bay Area and 29 home languages. Founded in 2011, Yu Ming is the first Mandarin immersion public charter school in the state.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilities Maintenance

• Inspects buildings and grounds at regular intervals
• Performs regular custodial work as needed
• Maintains storage area for equipment, materials, and supplies
• Carries out the directions of Office Manager and Head of School Operations
• Sweeps floors and messes, cleans and dusts walls, furniture, and other equipment
• Collects trash; empties and cleans waste containers
• Cleans spills and responds to other facilities needs during the school day
• Moves or rearranges chairs, tables, desks, furniture and other equipment as needed
• Manages the inventory of cleaning supplies and informs the Office Manager when supplies are running low
• Disposes trash every day in all classrooms, office rooms, cafeteria, and courtyard
• Operates the locking of the dumpsters according to supervisor’s instruction
• Transport and coverage on other campuses as needed
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Student Supervision

• Maintain the safety and security of the students and campus, foster a safe school culture and model/promote positive behaviors by providing high visibility and interaction throughout the school
• Monitor students during lunch and recess inside and outside of buildings
• Assist with meal time duties, including lunch support and distribution

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working comparable to that of a custodian
• Proficiency in English 

TIME COMMITMENT

Position is a 12-month position with certain holiday days/weeks off throughout the year. Students are present for the 180-day school year. Hours worked are 7am-3:30pm.

COMPENSATION

$23-28/hour. This is a full time position eligible for health and dental benefits.
